This morning I hit the river at sunrise. I was the first boat. I only caught 3 dinks. I fished hard and covered alot of ground. They just weren't biting. I got off the water at 10:30. Went to a funeral at 2pm and was back on the water by 4:30. I picked up a few small ones at Monlezun Canal. I love how everyone follows the no wake zone. Had a shrimp boat pass me on a plane. What a D K! Between that and all the other boat traffic. I headed south. I found fish at a super secrete spot...lol. Lets just say its an old drainage canal that I was lucky to get in. The first 50 yards is shallow. Too shallow for a trolling motor. After that the average depth is 4 to 6 ft deep. I caught 8 and missed a bunch. I was trolling the banks and twitching my jig with about a foot or two of line. Every few yards I would get a hit. I would stop and try again but they wouldn't hit it again. I had way too many pull loose before the net. Quite a few nice fish lost 5 or more per each fish that made it into the boat. I managed to net 2 at 12in and one at 14in. the other 5 were 8 to 10 inches. If I could of just had a little more time. Now next weekend needs to hurry and get here. I finally found the fish now I just need to get back on them. I have them iced down and going to clean them in the morning. Too tired to full with them tonight. By the way be careful there was a lot of snakes out. A duck blind had 7 sunning in it. When I went for my phone to take a pic they started hitting the water. Here is a few pics to enjoy. Poor shallow runner, he was getting a play by play of pics today.....lol. I did promise to bring him to that spot as soon as he hits land. Pics to follow I forgot to re-size them.
Good report
Here are a few pics from today.
I will take a pic of fish tomorrow before I clean them.
Oh no shiners were harmed. All caught on the same black and green jig I have been using for 5 trips. Fished 6 to 8 in on the drop off from the bank. All caught off stumps and cypress trees. Biggest fish missed all were tight in the pockets of cypress trees. Best success was constant movement of cork. I was using the cork like a popper. They wouldn't touch it if it sat still.
Great post and thanks for the pics.
Your welcome. By the way the water temps on the river was 60 to 63. In the canal it was 70 degrees.
