Hit the bayou at sunrise at Loraine Bridge. For the first 2 hours I was just catching little goggle eyes. I didn't pick up my first sac until I got halfway to Teppy's. I caught a few small ones in the stumps at 6 to 8 in deep. Once I got south of Teppy's I was on my old turf. I grew up fishing Laccassine south of HWY 14. I starting fishing areas I remembered where Mr. Carr use to camp on his house boat back in the 70's. These spots are cypress lined banks were a small cove dips in about 10 to 20 ft from the main stump line. That's when my luck changed. I caught a lot of small sacs under 8 in that I threw back. I ended up keeping 15 that were 8 to 12 in. Gary and me were leap frogging each other in 2 boats. He said it was a slow day. He kept 7. He fished every day this week and kept from 15 to 40 each day. No shiners were injured today. All fish were caught on a 1/16 oz black/green jig. I was adjusting the cork and finding the average depth in an area and set it an inch deeper. I would drag it around until it would float to locate the bed or a drop off. Man these fish were so aggressive. I lost way more than I could count. They would explode like a bass. One fish I know I lost him 5 times before I finally got him in the boat. He was hitting it so hard he would come out the water. I finally bent the hook out a little bit and caught him. Today was not a high keeper trip but non stop action from 10 to 2. I caught lots of small sacs and goggle eyes. Hey Vet I got my fix today......lol. I had to get off the water at 3:30 due to the weather.![]()

This could be the Day....
RETIRED LOUISIANA CRAPPIE HUNTER
I might have a cork on the line but it never rests. I use it as a popper. Its just to keep the jig off the bottom. That jig was made by an 80+ year old man. He made the rod too. Notice there are no eyes on the rod. I have it set up with a solo reel. It is so sensitive you can feel a shiner wiggle. Here are some pics of his jig work. I used the same jig all day and it looks as if it hasn't been used. He sells them for $1.10 a piece.![]()

Good catch, love the pics
your pics have given me "MY FIX"...so thanks and very glad you had a good day........
I use to spend a lot of time in that exact area back in the day, but now it's too far from anywhere I launch. Really have been missing that pretty stretch of Louisiana. I was hoping they would give us a new landing under the new bridge, but no sign of it. Thanks for the report and pictures of spots I can recognize.
Why no eyes on the rodSeems like you would break the tip out of it without eyes to spread the load when landing a fish.
He still ties good to be 80![]()
The string goes thru the inside of the rod. No tangles. This set up weighs 6.5 oz. Here is a pic of the reel seat. Tomorrow I will post better pics of the rod. Yes he is good. If you think these are good you should of seen his jigs 10 years ago. Whats amazing is how well they hold up. I even caught a few gars today. The jig doesn't look used. He quit making the rods. I am stocking up on his jigs so I will have a supply to last me for years.![]()
Nice pictures, thanks for posting.
