Default White Bass out of logansport 2/27

Not sure if this should be in here or off topic but.......

Just now getting around to posting this.

Good friend and me went up to logansport on the sabine to try after the White bass run.

Man it was coooooooooooooold for the first hour till that sun joined in. Lines were icing up in the guides and on them reels.

But can't complain to much, because the bite was on. In the first hour picked up a solid 20 fish between the two of us, and then they turned off like a light switch.

We tried various color baits, switched to crawfish, and other than catching 2 decent sized channel cats did not have a nibble.

We picked up a few here and there working all the sandbars with roadrunners, orange head with either black chart or blue white were the ticket.

Also picked up a nice 13 inch crappie that must have been lost.

Didn't take pictures of the box with everything in it, but here are a couple pictures of the fish i kept (15 whites and the crappie) another 15 whites and the two channels went home with my buddy.

If your up that way they are running pretty good now... so go get you some.

They are running pretty good sized, most of the females are 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 lbs. And filled with some delicious eggs if your into that.

Also chance of snow this tuesday night.... ***????

Sounds like a great trip. How good are those for eating? I've never been a huge fan of eating bass, but they'd sure be fun for catching!

The trick with white bass is removing the blood line in them. If you do a good job of that, they eat darn near as good as crappie.. perhaps i would say they have just a little bit firmer and flakier meat.

And if you like a fried fish egg... well it's tough to beat a 1/2 lb of eggs coming out of each female. :P

Interesting, thanks for the report. The white bass run on Sabine has been less than expected for me this year. I'm wondering if the main migration is just late this year due to the cold. I've been catching good fish like last year as well---just not as many.
    Thanks again,

I have certainly not experienced success like i did last year in either of the trips i made up there this year. And from what i hear tell they were really tearing them up in late jan, early feb before that real bad cold spell showed up. Makes you wonder if the fish have a more accurate long term weather forecaster than we do...
