    Default Wet Sunday, dry Monday

Fished this week end with my friend Fast and his buddy in the marsh. Sunday was a rain out but I fished anyway and caught fish. Monday morning was dry but caught less fish. We had a front sitting over us and it couldn't decide if it wanted to move south or north. We call it a day at noon Monday. We ended up with a nice box of fish with some bass, gills, and chinks mixed in. Didn't do a count but it had to be around 50 with over 40 sacs. I took 8 smaller ones home for supper.

Almost all we caught were males and the one female I took note of had already laid her eggs. The bite was a little funny as they would take the bait but couldn't hook them. I met coonpopper at the dock on his way out and he told me the same thing. I think those males were guarding the nest and just move the intruding jig out of the nest and not really taking the bait into there mouths. The fishing should be spotty for the next couple of weeks until the next wave of spawner get the urge with the next coming full moon. These will also likely smaller fish as I have read the larger ones spawn first.

Coonpopper glad to have met you out there and looking forward to chatting a little more next time.

Was looking for you Monday Mr. Gene. Saw a couple boats in the canal I fished, but didn't see you.

By the way, although we caught a few on shiners we did better on jigs. Tried the shiners to help improve the catch but it wasn't much help so I stuck with jigs and RoadRunners. I also tried Mr. Crappie Jokers for the first time, blue and white, and caught some fish on it. I will be trying it out more during the next few trips. I also have some black and chartreuse ones. I gave my Duck Commander double touch jig pole a good work out along with my Mr. Crappie Solo bottom reel pole. "G" had asked me about the Duck Commander pole which we both received at the Toledo Bend gathering and I think both are very good poles. The Duck Commander feels a little heavier but not a lot. I think it has to do more with the balance of the poles where the Sole has a rear seat and the DC seat is further up the rod. I have Solo reels on both. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either if I needed a new one. Both are excellent, strong and sensitive. Since they are slightly different I can't pick one over the other.

Great meeting you also Gene! Looks and sounded like you guys had a good trip. I ended up sticking 14 in about 30 min. when I pulled into my honey hole in the Grove. Man, I thought it was on! after my second cast, it was back to back action! Bite stopped as quick as it started! I fished for a total of about 2 hrs. before I had to head back in to go to work. Funny how those fish can be. I just finished cleaning mine and same thing.........all males, one female that was empty. Name: OG-2-24-14.jpg
