Inspired trip

OK, so Patrick and I made out last trip of 2013 yesterday. We decided to try Buoy 7 since we hadn't been there in almost a year. For those that don't know, it's between Pierre Part and Bay Nachez (White Castle).
Anyway, we launched at the White Castle canal and wanted to travel through Bay Natchez to Pierre Part the back way (about an 8 mile run). As it was, the canal, which is usually shallow anyway, was extremely low and I couldn't get all of the prop into the water without kicking up a lot of very stinky mud. We also saw some dead fish in the area. Needless to say, we turned around after about 500 feet and loaded back up and trailered to Bayside launch in Pierre Part Bay. At least Buoy 7 is only about a 4 mile run from there. But it did cost $5 to launch!
Water was low and 50 degrees and the fish had lockjaw. I threw 17, yes 17 colors at them and caught one 10" bass on a blue and clear speckle jig. No other nibbles even though I was seeing hundreds of fish on the finder. I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching?
We fished from noon til about 4 and on the way back we hit a stretch of bayou that just amazed us. We kept spooking eagles from trees along the bayou. I guess they were fishing too, but before it was over, we had at least 15 circling above us. The most I've ever seen at one time was the 3 back of Bayou Corne, but 15? That's what I counted while driving. There could have been more. All I know is that it was an inspiring sight, and me with no camera! One even flew low in front of us and led us all the way back to the bay and then joined the others circling overhead. I guess he wanted to make sure we got back home safe. It might sound corny, but I felt proud to be an American....
Next trip, I'll have the camera....just in case.

Paul, you're sure you didn't make a wrong turn and end up in Alaska. When we visited there a few year back I couldn't believe all the eagles. They were like sea gulls here, they were on every perch you could see along the river. We say hundreds of them. Sorry to hear that the fishing trip wasn't a success but glad you got to see the eagles. I talked to Wayne a couple of Sundays back and he says hi. He's still racing.

Paul, get some insurance soon. What if that had been vultures following you ,instead of eagles leading you? lol I use the Hartford for my boat insurance. Glad you still got your boat. Danny

Man hate that you didn't have better luck and I am like pawpaw gene with the eagles in Alaska. When we went in July we saw plenty and to me that was one of the best parts of the trip. You did say you saw dead fish and I bet that is what the cause of so many eagles being in one place was.

Wow, we don't see many eagles up here around Mamou. However, I did see one last year coming back from a squirrel hunting trip. What a majestic bird. i'm glad our founding fathers went with that as our national symbol rather than the wild turkey, which supposely Ben Franklin wanted. 15 eagles must have been quite a site.
I like State Farm for my boat insurance.

BoatU.S. for me. I have had issues in the past on a couple of boats. Their adjusters know their stuff, have always treated me well. Won't change.
