I am glad to see the info in this thread since I can no longer find the Big Momma's
My ONE YEAR OLD cranking battery has bit the dust...it was a blem from a local battery shop and REALLY cheap...NEVER AGAIN!
Here's a few first hand facts about BIG MOMMA batteries.
They were originally sold in Shreveport by Bill Young, owner of Youngs Discount Batteries on Texas Street, manufactured by New Castle Battery, a small regional manufacturer. Since Young's went out of business years ago, the label was sold to Battery Sales and Service in south Louisiana. El Salvador product was sold for Big Mommas for a while, and now I think they buy Exide. After all, there are only so many battery manufacturers, and the Big Momma label is...a label.
my 2 cents
I bought Optima's battery charger/maintainer also and even though it was not cheap, it's pretty awesome and if you buy a battery and the charger from them they add a year warranty to the battery. Personally if you treat the battery decent I don't think they would go bad within the warranty period anyway, have had mine a while now that are on my TM and they have been abused since my boat hing in it's slings stranded for over 1 1/2 years. So I didn't maintain it proper really and they still are going strong almost 2 years after I got my boat back out because water came back up spring before last.
just my 2 cents!
BTW, that charger is also really awesome. When you hook it up to the battery, it even knows what kind of battery it is.
Well, then, I guess that label made them the best batteries I ever used. 6-7 years battery life, long lasting on the water, etc. I wonder if I could find some labels to put on this junk I seem to buy nowadays to maybe make the batteries work bethretter.
This thread is the most useful I have seen on a fishing site...especially since it is time to buy a new battery!
