Default Gettin' Back In The Saddle

Let me say first that i just found this site a few days ago and I'm hooked! Pun intended. Seems like a great community of fishermen here.

I learned to fish sac-a-lait from my dad as a teenager in Henderson. Sac-a-lait fishing was his passion. The boat that I have now my dad actually bought new in '94. I bought it from him about 6 years ago when his health started declining. Back then I had very little time off to do much fishing but I went every chance I got.

Well dad passed away a little over 4 years ago. I haven't put the boat in the water since then. A few weeks ago my wife and I were driving on I-10 over the lake and I got all nostalgic. I started telling her fishing stories of my dad and I fishing there and she suggested I bring the boat out of retirement and take up fishing again. Now that I work a 14 & 7 schedule I have more time to fish so I took her advise.

Dad was my fishing mentor and advisor. Since he's gone I really don't know where to turn for advise about fishing anymore so I figured I'd start here. I'm probably about 3-4 weeks away from getting the boat completely set back up and re-registered but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a few places to start fishing.

I live in Opelousas now so I'm kinda centrally located between Henderson and Chico/Miller's but I don't mind driving a little farther. I really appreciate in advance any advise or help you guys can give.

KC, let me be the first to welcome you to the forum. Sorry to hear about your Dad but the great memories live on. There are a lot of good fishermen here that don't mind sharing info to help you along and then there are us that just hang around. We like the company. I hope you get much use out of your boat and with your schedule you should be able to pick you days. Once more WELCOME.

Glad to see another newbie too. I'm sorry about your loss too. Our stories are very similiar. Reliving wonderful memories of great fishing with loved one that recently passed away we decided it was time to make time to put fishing back in our life and bought a new boat. I was told about this site from an old friend and I must say it has been a wealth of information for me. Great advice and tips can be found here. I've learned about places I didn't even know about. We are in Lafayette and so far we have only been to the Henderson area, the Bay last weekend and Chico yesterday. Still so much to learn all over again.

Welcome to the site, I'm glad you're here with us. We have a sticky at the top for the golden shiner award, so lets see some pictures. I also hope you make one of our gatherings - we eat well.
