Black Lake and Red River

Went to Black Lake Saturday and ended up with 12 and throwed about 20 little ones back. Caught in 10-12 fow fishing 7-9 ft deep. Electric chicken and anything grey.

Went to Red River Sunday and ended up with 18 and throwed back around 10 small ones. Most were in the 1 1/2lb range. Caught in 6-10 fow and caught most from 2-4 ft deep. Shad were hitting the top of the water and the crappie were coming up for them. Grey with chart body hair jigs.

Fish the oxbows and behind the rock getties. I usually watch the depth finder alot for brush and channel drop-offs.

I just have very little self-confidence in finding these things. I only converted about 2 seasons ago, so, I'm 46 going on 12.

Mo'nBack, I crossed over Saline Bayou on Hwy 84 last week and it was completely clogged with salvinia or some type of vegetation. I was shocked because I'd never seen it like that. Does anyone know if the bayou is clogged all the way from the Black Bayou dam down to St. Maurice?

I crossed the bayou today and it was not as bad as I have seen it. All that salvania is coming from Saline Lake, the lake is so bad that it is about lost. They try to poison and break it up so it will flush on through, that's why the bayou is so bad, but it just does no good. I hate to see it speading like that, I only hope that the river water will keep it at a minimum and the whole bayou won't be lost as well.

Talked to a lady the other day and she said they were going in at St Maurice and going up towards Black Bayou and found that it isn't covered in the stuff all the way and said they had been catching fish up it. She said the salvania was just in spots.
