Default A few stupid questions about rigging.

New to crappie fishing, so a few dumb questions.

I'm looking up ways to rig rods and baits better---enjoyed DrJayhow's videos BTW.

I am going to start rigging up some 3-way swivels and droppers and such. I was thinking that the way these were done with the dropper off the 3-way and the bottom bait dragging behind the 3/4oz. weight is so that the line the bait is on is slack and enables the fish to inhale it without feeling resistance from the main line. Is this correct?
In truth, I have always just tied two hooks directly to my main line with a 3/4oz weight on the end to drag bottom and keep the line tight. Obviously this is a huge no-no and I will no longer do this.
I was just curious if the above reason is why it's such a bad idea.
Also, will the bottom hook snag stuff worse or not as bad as the way I've done it in the past.
I am also planning on having some rigs already made up in prep for break-offs, and putting 8 lb. test on my reel, with 6lb. test on my droppers in hopes that the 6 will break off below below my 3-way and I can just snap a new rig on.
    Any info appreciated.

BTW, I was thinking about doing a minnow on one hook and a jig off the 3-way. Does anyone have any luck with this, or is 2 minnows usually best either way?
I know some of you guys use 3 minnows/hooks. Do you find you go through a lot of bait like this?
