    Default Henderson Area

Is there a good map of the Henderson area available somewhere, something besides google maps? I hear about locks/flood gates or this canal gets you here, or there... but have no idea where any of them are located.

I used to spend a lot of time in Henderson when I was younger, not fishing but skiing with friends and they would find these isolated lakes we would have to crawl though trees to get to. But once we made it was a beautiful small lake, no other boats, unless an airboat blew though.

I would really like to get to know the area better, and I am game to just cruise and explore, but a map sure would help.
My fish finder has no GPS, my Garmin is pretty much useless in water, I have Navionics on my phone and tablet, but really no help either.

I believe map #54 might help you out some...but like you said, the best way is to explore. Thats what Ive been doing and Ive found lots of areas that dont even look like water on maps in Henderson.

I agree on exploration, but have a horror story from the time my wife and I went "exploring" Lake Fausse pt. So at times I can be gun shy about just taking off down a canal.

If you are talking about getting lost, you need a map and a GPS to be safe.........and a tank full of gas.....voice of experience.....

No sir we weren't lost...it was about 3rd time we took out the boat. 1st time on Lake fausse, we idled down the canal, then headed south across the lake. Before we knew it, the water was about 12 inches deep, didn't have my fish finder\depth finder yet. Took a half hour and engine trimmed way up but we made it out.(I was sweating like a pig) After that we went down the canal the other direction past the cabins. A few boats passed us both directions and disappeared. Suddenly I had an odd feeling and started slowing down, then boom, the boat jumps a cypress knee and the lower unit gets caught in the knee, the boat stops, my wife flies out of the seat and face plants into the bow deck, and I am wrapped around the steering wheel. well we are stuck. and at least 5-6 gators around us so no way was I going to get into the water. I was finally able to get the motor trimmed up and out of the knee, turned around and tried to retrace our path, and boink, another knee the boat is stuck again... I think we got stuck at least 3 more times before we were out of that area. Needless to say we hit the launch and were out of there. No engine damage, a couple of nicks on the bottom of the boat. My wife is still a bit nervy now when we head out, especially if it is some place new.

Thought you all might enjoy that...I have learned to slow way down in unfamiliar turf which should be a no brainer anyway. I also carry flares and a survival kit now

I want to start a thread on the naming of specific spots. I think their is some confusion between different folks as to the names of specific canals and lakes in Henderson. Prefers Shiners I anxiously await the good news of your catch today.

Good deal.I'll give you a cell shout if a miracle happens and they go crazy for me. I may have to quit a little early as I'm committed to a Friday trip also. Two days in a row is a little tough for my old hide.
