    Default Taylorsville 5-8-09

My son and I did great today. We both got are limit and added three hybrids and one large bluegill. We got on the water at 9:00am and finished just before the storm. Just finished cleaning them all. The biggest shocker for me was that I only had to measure one fish (ended up being 1/4 shy of the limit) and throw one obvious dink back. All others were 10 1/2 and up with one that went 1 1/2 lbs. We longlined trolled with jiffy jigs and curly tail jigs and caught every fish on one stretch of water on the main lake. This stretch of water is about 100 yards long and is about 10' deep with a gravel bottom and three key brush piles that appear to be put there on purpose. This is the same spot I have done good on three weeks in a row now. I really think the key is the brush piles. There is so much standing timber but not tons of just plain old brush piles. I found three and the fish are on them. Last week I would have sworn that they had spawned. The egg sacks were mushy and not firm. Today, the eggs were firm like normal. Someone else can explain this to me. Hoping to get back tomorrow but who knows what these storms are going to do to the lake and I want to remain married and it is mothers day weekend.

Went again first light this morning and decided I should have stayed home. Debri everywhere until all the boats caused enough waves to push the junk up onto the waters edges. Did not catch a single crappie but really only tried for a few hours and switched to bass. Had not luck on them either except for a few small hybrids. Water was up at least two feet from yesterday and the boat dock by the ramp was not even accessable. One had even broke away and was floating around by the marina. Planning on a night under the lights next Friday or Saturday with the wife. Fun time with some fried crappie on the Coleman stovetop with some fried potatoes followed by a movie on the portable DVD player, followed by lots of crappie action I hope. Obviosly, if the wife wasn't there it would be a bag of Oreo cookies washed down with a few Cokes.
