Default ALL RIGHT...WHO's BEEN DRAWING ON THE FISH!

Caught this rascal yesterday. I've caught'em before with a little mark between the eyes or on the lip but this one goes from the fins to the bottom lip.

    It's a black nose crappie.
I don't know much about them.

This is the first one I've caught thats been over 10 inches. It was a black species. I wonder if eventually, the mark will be all the way around them. This ones mark stopped at the first dorsal fin.

I've cleaned several from Blood River, they taste just like crappie to me :D!

    Exclamation Yep .... that's a Blacknose alright !!

Blacknose Black Crappie ... just a genetic resessive trait of a Black Crappie, other than that, they're no different than a regular Black Crappie.
ALL of the ones I've caught, have had a line from the bottom lip to the dorsal fin (top fin). Never seen one with any black line mark beyond the front of the top fin.
They're stocked in several lakes in KY. I know they're in KY Lake, and I've caught a few in Cedar Creek Lake. Wouldn't surprise me to catch one in any lake that's stocked with Crappie. I've been catching them at Watts Bar lake, in E Tn, for over 10yrs. Biggest one so far ... about 1.5lbs.
