Good time to be here for that type of fishing. Fish should be in the back of the bays by that time. Staying in a good bay to fish in. Big Bear, lots of brush and good fishing water.

I am going to be fishing Kentucky Lake for the first time the first full week in April. Is there any advice on bait, tackle or rigging that might be specific to Kentucky Lake? Here in Iowa a jig and minnow fished under a slip bobber is generally the rule. Chartreuse, black and white twisters are the mainstay. I will be staying at WHISPERING OAKS RESORT and will have my boat. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

if you have a GPS then and it is your first time then I would highly recomend going to www.kentuckyhydrografx.com and get a map of the area you plan on fishing.

Most all methods will work on KY Lake, provided the fish are in an area & depth that makes those methods viable.
Read thru all of this Crappie Movement Study, and apply it to the conditions you find, when you arrive : Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Kentucky Lake - Crappie Movement Study
I wouldn't rule out any of your methods working on KY Lake ... but, I'd suggest having some Chartreuse Marabou Roadrunners in 1/32 or 1/16oz and casting them around pea gravel banks, rip rap (rocky) banks, and any submerged wood cover that you can find. Marabou jigs, & tubes on a weedless jighead would also be a good bet. Minnows on a jighead, or jig, or plain #1 or #2 Aberdeen hook will also work ... slipfloat or not, depending on depth of fish, and what they're around.

My advise is to stay home because I am going in two weeks and I plan on catching every crappie in Blood River. Seriously, look in Jonathon Creek or Blood River. They are pretty easy to locate usually. Look for all the guys sitting on the front of their boats who are flashing their nets a lot. Usually at that time of the year you will see plenty of locals stacked ontop of each other. Pretty good chance the fish are in that area but don;t be afraid to search all around them because I have seen people just pull up to the crowds while I am up on the shore catching plenty of fish. People sometimes put all their hopes in the fact that those people sittin on top of each other aren't always catching any fish but they just can't stop to see why everyone is fishing a certain spot. Hope you have a good time because it is one great lake.
"You should have been here yesterday!!!
