    Default Frozen Fish Okay?

During the power outages from the ice storm I was unable to tend to my home situation as I was on emergency storm duty for the local utility co. I work for. My wife and three dogs were left home alone without power. My freezer full of fish and deermeat were off for two days time before she was able to secure a generator and get the freezer back on. I had her check the packages before she got it back on and she said they were all still hard to the touch. I know that it is suggested that food is okay for up to 24 hrs. without the power on but I was just wondering if any of you had any input into whether I should pitch the stuff out or try some of it first. She claimed it still felt frozen but I wonder. Any input would be appreciated. Minnerdipper2

    Thumbs up Ok

If your freeser wasn't off but 2 days & the stuff in the freezer was still hard I'd think everything was ok. During the power outage I put all my frozen stuff out in the big freezer in the garage. Freezer wasn't running but it was cold enough to keep everthing frozen. I have already eaten some of the stuff out of that freezer & no problems. I think you're OK personally. Now if it got mushy that would be another story.

During the summer my wife left my freezer open in the garage and all my crappie thawed out and I thought it all was ruined. It was thawed but still cold to the touch, never got any where near warm. I have been eating it and have had no problems. Wal-mart leaves their fish out on top of ice days at a time.

Should be fine. I lost power here for 6 days in December 2007. Put dry ice in the freezer and everything stayed frozen. No one got sick from any of it and I had 50 pounds of salmon fillets in there.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

my mother electric was out for 8 days during the ice storm without a genator and they are eating out of the freezer. she has cooked the sausage and no one has gotten sick so they are keeping every thing plus all of the fish that was in there.

Bottom Line - DO NOT let Children, Elderly or anyone with any known Illness eat any of this as they may have a low tolerance for certain bacteria.
Now if you would allow someone to eat this and they get sick and or die you could be held accountable especially if the prosecutor gets wind of your question on this Site.
Google all the risk involved and you may just get sick after reading.
You can go ahead and risk your own Health but just remember - What if ?
