    Default KY Lake Crappie?

Pappy's reply on another thread mentioning the transition to a higher % of black crappie on KY lake made me want to ask some of you guys who also fish regularly on KY if you've noticed your catch ratio showing this to be true? I've been fishing there almost 2 years fairly regular and although am not an expert and don't catch fish like Weezer,Canepole, Wiskers and some of the other experienced anglers I'm failing to mention, I have caught some keepers almost everytime. Personally, I very seldom ever catch a black crappie(fish mainly blood river). Just wondering if some if you guys are the same way, or if you are catching more blacks than whites?

I was catching more and more blacks up until spring '07. Since then whites are making up most of my catch. That's fine with me since they bite harder.

I have also experienced the same findings as Speck. Up until 2007 I was catching alot of Black Crappie, but the last two years seems like the Whites are on the rebound. I fish both Big Sandy and northern Ky lake with the same ratio of Black / White mix. I would have to say that I'm probably catching 80% whites the last 2 years.

Cool I would have to agree

It does seem like the last year or so the Whites have made a comeback but what I catch depends on how I choose/am forced to fish on that given day.

As a rule I would say that I have almost always found the Blacks shallower. I was wear'n the big blacks out in mid Feb. this year when the water was com'n up, fish'n 3' to 4' deep in 5' to 8' of water while the whites were still in 14' to 20'.

I have gotten in a habit of always checking the tops of a brushpile first. You'll be suprised howmany times you'll pick a few blacks off the top of the pile while the whites may be 5' deeper.

Lately I have been catching whites in 12' to 14' of water fish'n around 10' deep. I haven't tried it yet but I'll bet my favorite jigg'n rod the blacks are in the shallows. Gonna look this weekend. Gotta work the next 3 days.
