    Default Blood River Tuesday

Going to blood river to fish tuesday and wednesday. This will be my fourth trip this year. Fished Ky lake the first time this april. Looking for some advice on the gills and we may fish for some crappie at night. Will be staying at cobbs, any help is appreciated.

Unhappy Can't help you on the gills ...

but, I'd venture a guess that crickets at slightly above the thermocline, should get you some decent sized ones. Then again, with the Full Moon coming on Friday ... they may be gearing up for another spawn. If so, read thru the first few articles here - smelling bluegill beds - Google Search - and maybe it will help you "smell" your way to the beds

As for Crappie -- read thru this, and check out the info for June, Blood River & Sledd Creek ... the Crappie should be in a similar pattern. It's a starting point, anyway. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Kentucky Lake - Crappie Movement Study

And be sure and give us a trip report, when you return (pics would be nice, too )

Thanks pappy, I was hoping we would hit the spawn and load up on some gills. We caught some nice ones in april and made us hungry for some more. As I said this spring was my first trip to ky lake and I love it. I've already made plans on moving as soon as we get the kids raised. This will be my fourth trip this year even with gas at 4 plus dollars a gallon. The crappie fishing was the best ever as far as size goes and we figure to target them some next week also.

I've fished Blood River for crappie 2 times in the past couple weeks but can't really help you with the bluegill(caught a couple by accident, but were small). The crappie I've caught have been in 15-18 ft of water slow trolling minnows(tried jigs but they seem to like minnows on a plain hook better in warmer water). Caught fish up to about 13" but haven't just burned them up(but I'm far from an expert). Had 7 keepers one morning and only 3 the other(day after storms, high pressure/cold front). Hope this helps, good luck and have fun, I'm jealous I have to work the next 3 nights and probably won't get to go again for a week.
