Default Guntersville trip 3-9 thru 3-13-08

I am a little late getting this report out but lots of "honey dos" and stuff to catch up on. Here goes:
13 guys from Ind, Ky and Va met at CreekStone Lodge near Mud Creek. This is the 4th year for the "orginials" but my 3rd year. Most of the guys are bass fisherman but a few like to catch those good ole crappies! The first year that I was invited, I bass fished with them but saw some of the nice slabs they caught on crankbaits and figured out that my crappie boat needed to be on Guntersville.

Day 1. We arrived about 4 pm and had time for a couple of hours of fishing before dark. We head to 8 ft flat that I had caught fish on last year. We were fishing 6 poles on spider rig with 2 hook minnow rigs. We caught a 3 keepers, 2 throwbacks, 2 1lb bass, and a white bass. Supper was Polish Sausge, green beans, taters and onions all boiled up in a big pot. Good!

Day 2. We got 25 keepers in the am on the same flat and 15 more in the pm. Bass guys caught lots of bass in shallow water {2ft} with big bass at 5.14. Supper was pulled porked, fried fish, "Fuzzy's 15 bean stew", taters and cornbread. Ole Lord!

Day 3 We got 50 keepers on the same flats after the water started moving. {pulling water}. When there was no current, very little fish activity. We were trolling along pretty fast fishing our lines about 2 to 3 ft deep over this 8 ft flat. Bass guys did good on shallow cranks. One group head to a warm water discharge for some white bass and hybrid action. Supper was fish, hot wings, taters, and grilled turkey breast.

Day 4 We headed to the warm water discharge and caught 19 white bass, 2 Channel cats, and 9 nice gills. Bass guys caught big stringers of bass today at South Sauty creek. Supper we had grilled venison, bacon, eggs, and salad.

Day 5 We fished the same flat but the lake had dropped about a foot overnight and fishing was not as good but we did get 25 keepers and big fish at 15.5 inches. The fish only weighed 2.2 lbs. Its belly was all strunk in like it had been run over. It should have weighed well over 2.5 lbs. We think it may have been headed to crappie heaven soon. My buddy was not much on dock shootin and I was dying to try some before we left. I headed down to North Saulty to try a few docks in the afternoon. The wind was blowing and I was tired, hard to concentrate but did manage to get a few keepers off one dock. Using 4lb test WM yellow line, 1/32 panfish ass {albino shad}. Called it a day and headed camp. For supper we had deep fried turkey, fish, homemade dressing, and salad.

Day 6 Woke up to heavy rain for the trip home. Stopped at Bass Pro Shop in Nashville for Navionics Card
It was a great trip! Good weather, Good Friends, Good Fishin, and Good Food.
