Sounds like you did really well to me for the conditions. How does the average size of fish at Weiss compare w/ Kentucky Lake? I might need to take my dad there sometime.

Wanted to post a couple of pic's, I think given the conditions we did do pretty well. We worked hard for them though and had every stitch of clothing we could find on while doing it.

I think Weiss is known for numbers of quality fish 3/4 to 1lb 1lb 1/2 fish. I did see a couple of 2lb fish that had been caught. Big fish at Jr's tournament was a 2.49, so they do have some big fish. The keeper size crappie seem healthy and are real scrappers. Most of their bellies were bulging with eggs.
I'd still say overall that Ky Lake has a the edge.

It's good to be out and catching. I'm always amased how cold it is when I get down there. I can never figure how the water can be so warm and it's so cold out side.

I think Ky Lake has the size advantage (at least for me) but Weiss has the numbers of keepers advantage.

How was the lake level? Did you have any problems with low water?I will be going down in two weeks.It looked liked you had a bubblegum color gig on in that one picture.What seem to be the best color for you?

Kyteacher, the water level was down from what everyone told me, but since being my first trip to the lake I didn't have anything to guage it by. I didn't have any problems running in the area that I was fishing.

As far as jig color goes, Southern Pro Hotgrubs pink/chartruese and Junebug/chartruese out performed everything. I caught most of my fish on the pink chartruese using 6lb flouro-carbon line.

I mentioned the fluoro-carbon line because 90 % of the fish I caught was on the rod with fluoro-carbon. The lake was stained, far from clear so I wouldn't have thought that what line used would make a difference. I've just noticed on more than one occasion that I seem to get more bites on the rod I have spooled with fluoro-carbon.

Fluoro-carbon is supposed to be invisilble in the water and I think sinks faster, so maybe this has more to do with it than anything. At one point I hooked up with 5 fish in a row all caught on the rod with Fluoro- my other two rods and my dads three rods were spooled with Stren 6lb and P-line 6lb, they didn't get near the bites.

Could be other factors I guess, just an observation on my part. I had enough success with it that I'll continue to use it.

I have fished Weiss for over 10 years and probably seen more lower units torn to pieces on that lake then any other I have ever fished. If the water level is up, down, or whatever, be careful and try to always run in the channels. I have squirmed as I watch people fly over places that if they only knew what was 12 inches below them they would slow down. It is a great lake as most everyone knows but one that I move around on carefully.
