Default Fishing Report - March 1-2

Hey, this break in the weather has been great. Hope all you guys and gals got out there on the water/bank and said hello to the fishies for me.... Personal reasons keep me at home...

Any way, if you got out this weekend, post your results here for those of us who didn't get out. It's has been a L...O...N...G... WINTER and some of us need a reminder of what it's like to get out on the water and catch a fish. Hope to see you on the water soon.

    Good Fishing to All,
    Gary

    Boone,
Just got back. Put 13 keepers in the boat. It started out good this morning. It was overcast with very little wind but after the sun came out........KATEY-BAR the door! Man, that wind was whippin'! Couldn't hold on the beds and had to give it up. Almost sunk my boat trying to put it on the trailer. I did have a first though. My son caught (finally got one of the kids out of the bed early) a white crappie that had a black mark on his bottom lip. It looked like someone had taken a felt tip marker and just made a mark on his bottom lip, right in the very center, top to bottom. Anybody ever heard of these? I have seen the ones with a black mark between their eyes but never on the mouth. This one did not have the mark between the eyes.

    Hey Boone,
I forgot to mention, I lived in E-ville for a couple of years. Met my wife there. I feel like I've done my good deed for life. Married a Hoosier and brought her to the Promise Land of Western KY. She was from the East side, close to the Mall of course!

If you found her in E-ville, then she must be keeper...That's where I got mine.

    Good Fishing,
    Gary:rolleyes:

Unhappy first time out this year

went to cave run today, for the first time this year. spent about an hour trying to find some minnows. there was none to be found at any of the bait shops that i went to. So if your planning on fishing with minnows at cave run in the next few days you may want to find them somewhere besides the shops in Rowan County. They all say the minnows are on the way so they may have them soon. You may want to call before you go.

Hey Fishmoreworkless how did the Cave look? Is it muddy? Did you get to fish and if so did you catch anything? What was the water temp?

I have caught a two fish on Barkley with the same black mark, both were caught in one brush pile the same day. I took a picture to show a guy at work who fishes Ky he has caught them as well.

If there was no black streak running from bottom lip to top fin ... it wasn't a Blacknose (and probably not a crossbreed, either). If the coloration of the sides of the fish were that of a White Crappie, and it just had a spot of black on the end of the lower lip, that's nothing special. Could've just been a errant genetic mark, just a fluke coloration, or a natural coloration mark (that you just hadn't noticed on other Crappie, before). Anytime a Blacknose's genetic pool is mixed with those of other Crappie species ... the black stripe is dominant (even though it's a recessive gene, in the Blacknose Crappie). That's just IMHO, though ... as you'd have to have a biology lab do genetic tests on it, to find out for sure)
