Williamstown Lake

Anyone fished Williamstown Lake during the last couple of weeks? I'm hoping the boat traffic has decreased enough to make fishing there a little better.

I haven't been to Williamstown lake, since maybe .... oh - 50yrs ago :p
I'm pretty sure that's the lake my grandparents took me to .... used to catch some really nice Bluegill, there. Used to rent a rowboat, and get out in the deeper water out in front of the "ramp" (?), and sacrifice a hundred or so crickets to the gill gods :D
Memory is a little foggy on that though and I'm sure things have changed a lot, since. My GrandPa used to refer to it by different names - Dry Ridge - Williamstown - Falmouth .... but, I'm pretty sure it was Williamstown Lake. I just remember that it was a trip up I75 North, and a turnoff to the right. There was a building at the top of a hill, with a gravel parking lot and gravel road down to the water. The rental boats were flat bottom wood boats, with oars ... I definitely remember that, since I was the one that had to row the boat :D (didn't own a trolling motor, back then ... I was the trolling motor )

I've also fished Corinth, a couple of times (about the late 70's) ... but, not sure if I've ever been on Boltz. Pretty much grew up fishing Herrington Lake (Crappie/Bass/White Bass) ... and expanded from there, as I grew older.

I think the lake you're talking about is Kincaid...it's about 20 miles from Williamstown. It's a great lake if you wanna catch bluegill or crappie that are under 5 inches long :D .

My buddy and I did pretty well at Williamstown yesterday. Caught a catfish and two bass that were over 2 pounds, and 45 or so crappie (only 12 or so over 9 inches, with the biggest being 14). Not a bad trip, considering our fish finder went out and we've never fished that lake before. People on skis/wakeboards/jetskis make warm-weather fishing there pretty much impossible. I think we were the only people out there fishing for crappie yesterday, which is always a plus!

I haven't got around to fishing Herrington or Taylorsville yet, but we've done pretty well on Williamstown and Guist Creek. Nice numbers from Corinth, Herrington and Boltz lake, but poor quality of fish (for us at least).

You might be right about it being Kincaid ... but, it really didn't seem like it was very far from I75, before we were at the lake. That's why I thought it was Williamstown Lake. But, like I said ... we're talking 50yrs ago :D

Herrington ain't the easiest lake to fish, either But, I have pulled out some 2lb Crappie from there (again, many years ago). Grew up fishing it, mostly for Crappie & White Bass ... then for Bass (during my Bass fishing days).
Taylorsville has been my Crappie lake of choice, locally, for quite a few years ... but, the best I've done there was a 15 fish limit that weighed 10lbs. There are some good sized Crappie in there, they're just not there in great numbers.
Never fished Boltz, and only fished Guist Creek a couple of times. Overall, for size and numbers .. I'd have to say Barkley Lake has produced best, for me, in my lifetime. Second to that would be Green River Lake believe it or not :p .... then probably Ky Lake, Herrington, and Cave Run .. in that order.
Well, as far as local waters are concerned, anyway. I do make a trip or two to Watts Bar Lake, in E. Tn, each year .. and the occasional trip to Weiss Lake, Ala.

I use to fish bullock pen 40 yrs ago , at That time it had some of the biggest gills Ive seen , it is not far off 75 either. Don't know what happened to that lake , still has a lot of crappie and blue gill but not much size.

I fished Williamstown again yesterday. Caught 25 in 3 hours, and the biggest one was almost two pounds!

I really love the fact that this time of year I'm normally the only boat on the water too.

I fish Williamstown a few times a year for crappie. What kind of a pattern are you catching your crappie on? Depth, coves, points, minnows, jigs, etc? Never had that kind of luck there, mostly small ones.

All I ever use there is minnows on slip floats. The best depth for me so far is 4' - 6'. For the most part, I stick to docks that are near dropoffs.
