Red face Crappie By The Dozens!!!

Well Jigboy got me started with that Barkley post. I decided to load up and hit Barkley today. Boy I had a ball. I found a good drop off coming from about 10' almost straight down to 23', with a ton of brush. I bet I caught 100 fish working that ledge. But...... out of all those fish I only had 3 keepers. :o All except for 1 were White Crappie. Most of the fish were holding about 10' deep over about 14' of water. I caught'um casting, I caught'um vertical jigg'n you name it I tried it. The only colors I could get them to hit on was purple & chartruse tubes & a white marabo roadrunner. Well I think I'll go back tomorrow & try to find some bigger fish. See What you've started Jigboy! :D

It was a ball. I got up this morning & my sholders are sore from setting the hook & pull'n in fish. I'm not as young as I used to be. :o My hands are sore from all the fins I took yesterday from those little buggers. I hate handling small fish! The bad part of it all was that just about every one of the throw backs liked about 1/8" to 1/4" hitting the line for our 10" limit. They'll be legal by this spring! :D I like to know where the Ky dept. of Fish & Game get the notion that we don't have many juvinial crappie in these lakes! I guess I shouldn't complain though. It was a beautiful day & the lord let me have a little fun! :D

AINT YOU ASHAMED! I had to work yesterday and church today. Which bay was you in? I am going to try to go next week or next weekend. Eddy Creek will most likely be my target.

    Default What a day

:D Sure wish i could have gone yesterday but had to work all weekend. I would have to agree with you on where KDFW got there info because i seem to catch alot of small fish now and back in the spring. Especially at Jonathan last spring, all i did was measure fish.

I am on vacation the week of the Oct. 8th while the kids are on fall break and plan on fishing alot. We will be camping at Hillmans. Hopefully those slabs will have turned on and the kids and myself will slayem, HAHA. I havent tried purple/chartruse, i have been catching them on red/white/chart. and orange flake.

    good luck next time out!!!!

Hey we may bump into ya at Hillmans that week. I think that the brother-in-law & I are gonna camp that week too. It's kinda up in the air right now. He had surgery on his foot & if it feels ok we're go'n. Even if we don't camp I'll be up there off and on. Probably gonna go to the Crappie Classic for atleast 2 days on the 12th & 13th.

Look for a White Tundra with a fat boy in it, pull'n a white Lowe Stinger 180W. Also look for a white Z71 with a big ugly guy with a cast on his foot, pull'n a blue ranger (that'd be my brother-in-law) :D . If we bump into ya I'll show you some good spots in Pisguh, Smith & Birmingham.

BTW purple & Chartruse is a killer color on Ky & Barkley!

Whiskers, You have a private message. I know that you fish Jonathan and Blood River. A buddy of mine has caught some good numbers down there in the last week or so.

Whiskers, Thanks for the heads up. I almost never fish that area but will keep it in mind. I'll bet that one of these days you and I will meet somewhere on the lake, when we do I want to share a Pop with you. Good fishing,
