I'm a local up here in Lousiville, KY in Jeffersontown so I have a few nice places within a half hour drive both Taylorsville Lake, and Guist Creek Lake.
Guist Creek is definately a smaller lake but it is full of small inlets and great fish. At this point I only fish from the bank because I have no boat, but it's still great fishing on occassion. I haven't caught too many large crappie in any super-abundance, but I've definately cought some nice large crappie outta there.
Check out my signature for a link to see Guist Creek on Google Maps, you can start to see how many great channels there are.
I've never used minnows there but jigs fire them up! If anyone is in the area and wants to meet up sometime to fish either of these lakes, either pm me or just post in the ky forum and from here on out I should catch it [I just found this wonderful place a few days ago].

Wouldn't surprise me none. I'm not crazy about that ramp anyway. Drops to steep. I saw a guy almost tear out his transom when he didn't raise his motor before launching.Originally Posted by crappie52

You fellas are exactly right, the place is 10-11ft down, maybe even 12 ft. It's kinda rediculous, most of my usual places are no good even from the bank.
On a good note, I've take the time to take a TON of pics mapping out the entire bank and where all of the good structure is for when the water finally gets back up :D. I am boatless for the time being so bank fishing is all I have. I went out today and didn't have much luck, I didn't stay too awful long, I broke a rod :/. I have plans to go back tomarrow, but I'll be staying all day. I'm going to venture out further than I have so far and hopefully I find a place that is a bit better fishing than the few places out there I've been fishing from.

And I also noticed that a good percentage of the bluegill and other small panfish, even a few small bass are sick. They have those small red dots on them, and all of their fins look red and infected at the base of them, and on the outside of their gills as well. None of the crappie I've cought outta there have been like that, and it's definately NOT every fish, but probably like 5% of the small fish are like that. For the most part I've been fishing beneath the bridge there, but today I moved down about a quarter mile and still managed to catch one like that. I saw a few posts here about some disease that the fish get, I have no idea if this is it, but there is definitely something up with them, overall though, most are fish are just fine, just kinda strange, never seen that before.

have you looked into fishing on Beaver Lake ?? It's not that far from Taylorsville Lake. The water is low there, too ... but not so low that you can't launch, so I suspect it's not near as low as Guist Creek. I heard they closed the ramp, due to low water. Low water, hot water ... small lake like Guist Creek --- I'd say there was some serious parasite infections getting started there. Or maybe it's just the stress of the low & warm water ??
I don't know if you can bank fish in many places on Beaver ... but they do have a handicap levy to fish off of ... and boats rent for $35/day. Ever since the KDFWR lowered the lake and killed the shad, and started spraying the moss during the Summer .... the fish have gotten back to their former glory. It's supposed to be a great Bass, Crappie, Shellcracker, and Catfish lake .... like it was years ago.
I've only fished Guist Creek a few times ... and I wasn't impressed. And I know that trying to bank fish at Taylorsville is difficult, at best. I've done it a few times, mostly in Nov/Dec or late March/early April. With the water level being down to a foot below Winter Pool, it might be a little easier to walk the banks ... but, getting to some decent banks would still mean a long hike thru the woods (or a long, iffy trip along the shoreline).
You might want to start a new thread ... and see if you can hookup with someone that has a boat, wants to go, and would like the company.

Crappie52, where is beaver, I'm looking on Google maps and can't find a thing. If you could post the official name, it would be great because as I said earlier, I'm going fishing all day tommarrow, and with the water way down at guist, a new place would be perfect! I appreciate it.

Ok, never mind, I found it. I guess it's not listed by name on google maps, I went to the ky wildlife web site and looked up the grid coordinants and put them into google map and came up with this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=%2B37%C2%B0+58'+34.68%22,+-85%C2%B0+0'+30.60%22+(37.976300,+-85.008500)&geocode=&dirflg=&saddr=9911+Grassland+D r,+Louisville,+Kentucky+40299&f=d&hl=en&sll=37.976 3,-85.0085&sspn=0.171308,0.32135&ie=UTF8&z=10&om=1
the thing is, this is over an hours vs. the normal 20 minutes drive. Well I'm going with a friend tommarrow so maybe we can split gas and check it out :D.
Thanks for the heads up though, sounds like there may be some good fishin, I don't know if I'll be able to hold myself back, thanks again.
