Default Canadian Water of Lake Erie

Just back back from Pelee Island on Lake Erie and we caught tons of smallmouth bass. Took my two young sons for the first time and had the best trip I can ever remember. Gonna post some pics but not sure how to add them onto a post here. Any suggestions?

Glad you had a good trip Jigboy....we'd love to see some pictures. The easiest way to post pics is to download your pictures to your computer, then log onto photobucket.com. After signing on as a user (it's free) you can hit the browse button. THis will let you browse the pic's you downloaded onto your computer. Double click on the pictures you want and then hit "Upload" make sure they are 640x480 when you do this. That's the perfect size for message boards. It will take a couple of minutes for the pic's to upload. Once you complete the upload you can view them on photobucket. Click on the IMG code at the bottom of hit picture, right click on it and select copy. GO to your thread at crappie.com you'll see a little post card looking thing (sqare box with mountains and sun) click on it and it will open up a script prompt on your computer. Copy the IMG code into the script prompt and hit, OK. The picture link will then be in your post. You can preview your post before you submit it. Sounds really confusing, but after you do it a couple of times, it's no problem. Welcome back!

If you go to the post reply button and open the reply window you will see a paper clip thing in the top row where it says fonts. cilck that and a window will open that asks where you want to get your attachment from. click browse and find the file with the pic and click open. It will tell you what to do. If I can do it anyone can.

I don't know how I did it but you got one pic anyway. Thanks for trying to help. Here is another one...it is my 11 year old with a crazy walleye that thought he was a smallmouth.

By the way, this is one of the cheapest and best trips I do. If anyone wants info on my trip just let me know and I can put down all the info from the ferry trip to the island to hotel info. I have been to Pelee Island now about six or seven times so I know the area pretty well. For the money, it is a great trip.

    Lightbulb Jigboy ....

you don't really "need" to click on the "attachment" or "postcard icon" to add a picture to your post from Photobucket. You can simply right click in the text box and "paste" the IMG code.

What I do, is select the "Message Board" size option on Photobucket, when loading my pictures onto it. This insures that I get the biggest/clearest picture, without going over the site's limitations. I left click on the IMG address bar, under the picture I want to post, and it's automatically "copied". Then I switch screens to this site, and right click in an open space in this text box, and paste the IMG address into it. (making sure I have a couple of spaces before and after the IMG address, so my words & pic don't collide)

This is how it should appear :

    2.5lb Crappie/Watts Bar Lake, Tn/April 2007

Either way works ... but, copy/paste just eliminates a few clicks.

By the way ... your first post pic didn't appear because the [img] heading was missing from the beginning of the address. I added the heading, and it came out as a URL link, probably because that's the address bar you chose when clicking below the picture in your Photobucket Album.
As you seem to have figured out how to post a pic ... I'm just adding my comments for anyone else who may be having similar difficulties.

Nice fish !! ... and glad you had a fun trip. Welcome back !!

I would appreciate the details on the trip. Please put it on here or PM me. Wish I could help on posting the pictures, but I might as well have been reading Sanskrit as well as I could follow the directions above. I'm not very computer literate.

Smallmouth fishing in Ontario opens on the forth Saturday of June. Don't even think to try catching them early because we get checks about every year we are up there.

I drive north up I-75 to the south side of Detroit. I cross the Canadian border into Windsor. Next year everyone is required to have a passport. Be ready to have your boat searched because it has happened to me every single time, so allow at least an hour. Also, do not try to bring live bait into Canada because that is illegal.

Once you cross the border, follow the signs to Leamington, which is about 35 miles from Windsor, heading east. We always stay all night in Leamington at a Comfort Inn. Get the phone number off the internet and check prices on hotwire or other sites. It cost a lot but if you go with a group of guys slpit up the cost. We paid $114.00 this year for a room to sleep in.

At 9:00am we got on a ferry called the M.V. Jimaan and the ride takes 1 1/2 hours to get to Pelee Island. You can stay in Leamington and drive your bass boat across eveyday, but God help you if you get some wind. The phone number for the ferry is 1-800-661-2220. I had two adults and two kids with my chevy silverado and boat on trailor which measured from tongue to tip of motor 25'. It cost me $58.91 to take the ferry each way.

Once on island I have stayed in a couple of the hotels. Main suggestion is to make sure your room has A/C no matter what. It gets hot out there and nothing is worse then coming off the water to a hot hotel room. Not all places have room. This year we roomed at the Anchor and Wheel. The room we had cost $100.60 per night but the room had four beds which is nice. The hotel also is home to the best restaurant on the island. Friday night is all you can eat walleye and Saturday is a buffet to die for with everything from fish to prime rib. Their phone number is 519-724-2195.

There is nothing to do on this island except fish. People go out there for the winery and just to get away, but I would be bored to death out on the island if it wasn't for the fishing. We take donuts and sandwich stuff with us to save money. There is a Walmart in Leamington where you can purchase a license. With a 8 day conservation tag it cost $24.00. Beware of all the rules up there. A daily catch limit is the same as a possession limit. We put all smallmouth back and keep a few walleyes to eat in the evenings. We took a deep fryer with us and some oil.

While at Walmart, purchase a reef map of the western end of Lake Erie. Take a GPS and you will find the fish. There are two or three reefs within a mile of the island. If you fish mainly the east side of the island (the best fishing area) you are protected from the wind by the island. Find lighthouse point, (obvious because it is the only lighthouse on the island) It has a rocky point that runs way out into over 25 feet of water and is usually covered with smallmouths. From that point head south along the shore and out to 18 feet of water down to what is called middle point and the whole area has lots of fish.

We throw tube jigs, leachs and softcrawls (buy in Leamington and sometimes on the island). At times any sort of crank bait lure works well depending on weather of course. Like any trip, weather has everything to do with your success. Get lucky and get a cloud covered weekend with no lightening and you will stay busy pulling fish in all day long.

If anyone plans a trip, let me know and maybe we can meet up. I will be going next July 4th through the weekend following.
