    Default Tough Monday

Well my work schedule right now has had me off every Monday this month so I've been making the most of it trying to get some ninth inning crappie fishing in.

The past couple Monday's I've driven all the way to KY lake. Did real well fishing but the expense was starting to catch up with me. I decided to drive to Barren River Lake today since I haven't fished it in a while, and it's much closer.

The lake is still about 7' below summer pool, water temp was 72 to 74 deg. Fishing was dismal at best. Managed to catch 13 Crappie, 4 catfish, 4 stripe and one greencarp. Only three of the crappie were keepers the biggest being around 12"

I just can't figure that lake out! It's got to be on of the hardest lakes to crappie fish on.

Guess I'll be winding down now myself. The expense of going vs. how good the fishing is, is starting to pendulum swing back the other direction.

Just thought I'd share a photo of one of the cats I caught, gave a good fight on my 10ft crappie pole. The teezer Purple/Chartruese is one of my favorite colors.

The lake I fish is a 3500 acre lake that is 7' low too and the best luck I have been having is fishing my winter holes which are about 10-15 feet deep. I normally fish tubes injected with crappie nibbles but lately have been using some 3"-4" kalin twister tails that I got at a salvage store and having most of my bites on them. I cut 3 rings off the front and about 1/2" off the tail and split it otherwise they seem to be short striking, same temps. Don't know if it will work on your lake but I'm catching enough to make it worth while. Thankfully I only live 2 1/2 miles from the lake.
