I prefer the sickle hooks. I think it greatly helps the hook-set. I miss a lot less fish with them. Also, recently I came across some jig heads that are double-barbed at opposing angles. They seem to hold the bodies much longer.

I also meant to add that several years ago I came across and got to know an old fisherman on Kentucky Lake who used only orange jig-heads exclusively. He claimed he had tried all other colors but had kept records showing that the orange heads (no matter what color jig body used) out-fished any other color. I then started using orange heads and, sure enough, found them to be very good in attracting crappie. But, over the years, I got away from using them, choosing instead to use chartreuse or pink or white or blue. However, about two months ago, for some reason I am not quite sure, I once again started using orange heads.....whether spider-rigging or single-poling. Success with them has been so good (at least from late Spring until now well into the summer) I find it hard to go with any other color.I have boxes full of all color jig heads, but time and again I now reach for "orange," especially here on Lake Cumberland. So far, they have not let me down.
Well i will have orange and 9 or 10 other colors of heads
Do you all like the #2 red sickle hooks?
I like sickle hooks but as stated they have a tendacy to break when snagged instead of bending, get just as good of hookups if I go up a hook size and slightly open gap of hook.. Crappie have really big mouths so hook size doesn't really bother them much on normal 1/32-1/8 oz jigs.
I also think gold aberdeen hooks attract strikes as well or better then red hooks. jmho so take it for what it costs:)
I will have the regular jigs heads with #2 and #1 hooks shortly.
It may be another week or 2 before i have the sickle hooks. As of now they will be the round heads with a #2 red sickle hook. I will have 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 oz heads for both and i will have 1/4oz round heads with #1 bronze eagle claw hooks. I will have 5 to 10 colors and unpainted also...
Ok, I been doing some work and I some more questions...…..I maybe able to sale weedless jig heads and road runner/pony heads..... My questions are the weedless would 1/16oz be a good size? and would it be better to have a collar and barb or without collar and barb? Are there different types of guards if so could you explain it? what hook size is best?
the same questions and the road runner and what blade works the best Colorado or willow blades, hammer or smooth...…...Right now I am thinking 1/16 with collar and barb with a #2 hook for the weedless and road runner I am think both blades with collar and barb with a #1 or #2 hooks....and both jigs well be available in pink, glow green, blue and chartreuse...….any and all input welcome
