Thumbs down You Gotta Be Kidd'n Me!!!

As you all probably know this year they have brought back the Crappiethon. They tag fish, you buy a $7.00 badge and if you are lucky enough to catch a tagged fish you win a prize! Weeeeee!!! Well I caught one and guess what I won! Get ready. Are you setting down? I won a FREE SATTILITE INSTALLATION worth $150!!! WEEEE!!! Sorry but that sucks! #1 I already have one and #2 that's not a flipp'n thing that I can't get on the phone and get in 5 minutes anywhere. Heck free setup is advertised in the paper every flipp'n day. But what really ticks me off is the company that "donated" this ain't donating anything. They get paid buy the sattilite company to install the thing and they also make a commision! And there are like 100 of these "Free Installations." Heck it's making them money! If all 100 tags were turned in and every one was used giving them the benifit of the doubt and say they made $100 on each Installation from the satillite co. thats $10,000! Now I don't want yall to think I'm a sore looser or "sore winner" but jeezzz, give me a $2.00 bag of jigs, a $3.00 hat, something I can use. What a rip off! Bet I don't buy one next year!

As far as I know they are only doing this on Kentucky and Barkley lakes in Ky. You can get the badges at just about any bait and tackle shop around the lake.

If you dont buy one next year, you know you'll catch the one with the free Triton... At least that would be my luck anyway...

Wink Don't feel too bad, Wiskers ....

quite a few years ago, my partner and I were fishing Weiss Lake ... when the Crappiethon (or similar setup) was being run, there. We caught two tagged fish, in one day. We didn't notice they were tagged until later on in the day ... and had no way of knowing which one of us caught them. Didn't really matter, though, since neither of us had purchased a "badge". Being the honest sportsmen kinda guys, that we are, we didn't "fudge" the system (buy badge, then return later & submit tagged fish). But ... we were curious as to what each tag would have been worth. We gave the fish to a trusted individual ... who had the tag numbers checked, to identify what "prize" was associated with them. We were only told "you really don't want to know what those tags would have been worth, had you legally been registered". That statement, to my way of thinking, could have only meant one thing ....... one or both of those tags were worth some serious $$$

Been back to Weiss several times, since then ... but never when any "tagged fish" series was going on. And, even though it would be a slim chance, of either/both of us catching a tagged fish .... I'm not so sure that we wouldn't purchase the badge, all the same :D

I understand your feelings of being "ripped off" by the chintzy "prize" of free installation (when it's normally "free", anyway). Have you considered contacting the "officials" of Crappiethon, and lodging a complaint about the worthlessness of these "prizes" ?? Potential bad publicity, over the worthlessness of these particular prizes, and the shady "advertisement/sponsorship tactics" of the providing company, should make the Crappiethon officials a little leery of allowing repeat instances of this kind. And, while it won't change the outcome of your experience ... it may well give them cause to think twice about whom they allow as Sponsors (and what the real value of the donated 'prizes' are), next time.

You know as well as i do installation doesn't cost anything but what the techs hourly wage is anyway. And I know those guys aren't getting $150-$200/hr. So actually you dodn''t win anything.
Unless a tourney like that has money and just wants to give away nice stuff, i'd think vouchers at a bait shop, rod and reels and other "fishing" related stuff would have been more appropriate.
But hey atleast ya won somehting. LOL!!! I don't think i've really ever "won" anything besides titles when I was athletic.

On the brightside atleast ya caught some fish.

I caught one years ago at Pickwick, it was on Sunday so not a lot of
places open - finally found a gas station that was participating and
they looked up the tag # and told me it was the Rib Cages's fish, don't
remember how much it was supposed to be worth. Anyway, for some
reason I didn't think they were telling me straight, so found another place
and they said it was Wal-Mart in Corinth Ms's fish, worth $25.00
So I ended up with about $24.99 in gas finding out, then going and
collecting my fortune  Didn't buy a tag next year, caught another
one - put it in the cooler filleted and ate it, threw tag out with the heads.
