Heard the one about bananas being bad luck on the boat?

I’ve been having terrible leg cramps with all this heat and the long hours I’ve been on the lake. I bought a small bunch of bananas to help with the cramps.

Today we started right after daylight from the Canal Campground, where my clients were staying. We hit several bays that contained every fish possible EXCEPT crappie. My cooler was filling up but nary a Crappie over the side. I remembered the bananas!!

I offered them to my guests but they declined. I ate one then tossed the 2nd over the side. Now I’m a strict case study against litter but figured returning an organic object back to nature is OK and since we hadn’t seen a Crappie, I needed some good Karma.

Almost immediately we hooked and lost a good crappie on a Pico. We all hoped that wasn’t our one and only. It wasn’t. Between 10 and when we left at 1, we pulled 15 keepers to the net and over the side of the Excel.

No more bananas!!
