Asian Carp below Taylorsville

Well, I knew they were there. Saw them first hand this evening. My wife and daughter went to the Taylor Swift concert so I took my son for some go carts and arcade action. Stopped below the dam at taylorsville on the long way home. Saw a couple of AC jumping while there. Wonder how long before they are in the lake...

When T-ville gets high (or worse, floods) and starts dumping water thru the spillway ... the Asian Carp are going to come up the Salt to spawn. They need a heavy, constant current to spawn in, so those residing in the Salt River are just waiting for their chance to spawn. And right now the discharge water temp of 22C. (71.6deg F.) is at the optimal range for their spawning.

Yes, indeed they did, Louie. There's a straight path from the Ohio River, up the Salt River, to below the spillway at Taylorsville Lake. But, that's as far as they can go, by themselves. There is no lock for them to go thru & get into Taylorsville Lake, like they can at KY Lake. IF they are in Taylorsville Lake, they had to have been transported there by human hand.

I've heard "rumors" that people have seen them in the lake ... but, while I've seen regular Carp jump, and Catfish and Hybrid Stripers roll on the surface (even in heavy boat traffic), I've yet to see any Asian Carp in the lake. I'm hoping those "rumors" were just misidentification of one of those three.

I've personally (temporarily) snagged & rolled a few Asian Carp in the tailwaters, and a fishing buddy of mine actually snagged & landed one that could have well been in the 20lb range from the tailwaters.

My thoughts exactly! I know it would be nearly impossible for passage from below, but disturbing to see them so close.

I see them jump all the time when I am wade fishing below McAlpine Dam. Up in the roiling water by the gates they look like Salmon jumping upstream.

I have had them jump in my boat at yankee creek off the Ohio river here in Evansville Indiana
and jump in my boat at the Otter pit near Bluegrass pit in Evansville. And they are nasty and messy.
One hit me in the shoulder and it felt like a brick .
