    Default Any jonathon creek reports

Going down to Sportsman’s on the 28th for a week, just wandering about water levels, temp and color of water. Is it going to be a good week or a long week of searching either way it’s better than work.

Haven't fished Ky Lake in about a week. We drove down to Wildcat on blood river today. Water temps are 48-50 according to a friend who fished today. He said the fish were scattered and slow. Only caught 9-10. The water looked a little muddy back at the ramp, but I bet it was more clear and just stained closer to the mouth. Water level wAS just below winter pool last time I checked, so the levels are more back to normal for the time of year. Until we get some warmer weather the temps are gonna be slow to rise and the fish will be more challenging to catch. The temps are supposed to be in the 60s all week and rain expected on Wed. and Thurs. so the water may warm a little towards the end of the week. I know that doesn't answer your question specifically about Jonathan Creek, but I don't think there is much difference between JC and BR. The water conditions are probably very similar and the fishing is probably about the same. A good angler with good electronics and a little patience will be able to find fish. I hope this helps.

jbowl, a buddy and I will be staying at sportsman lodge also, march 28-30. we plan to fish johnathan creek and blood river mostly. it will be our first time on Kentucky lake. I have a friend that fishes there quite a bit and he showed us some spots on the map to target. maybe we can help each other out while were down there.

Another option to consider is hiring a guide for a day. They spend the most time on the lake and know more about where the fish are located and which technique is most productive. mrdux is one of the guides from this site and a forum sponsor. He is not only a great guide he’s a heck of a nice guy. He knows the lakes like the back of his hand. I plan to go with him myself to learn how to long line correctly. Maybe you and xraytrapper could meet up and split a guided trip. Good opportunity to learn the lake, catch some fish, and make a new friend.

We both live north of Grand Lake St. Mary’s about 15 minutes. We will take Any help your willing to share. Biggest thing for us will be depths there biting at. We are wanting to try some different techniques also besides just jigging with cork and jig. Maybe we could meet up at the lodge and at least shoot the breeze.

I think this is some solid advice. Mrdux is a great fishing guide, and a great person. If he’s not booked already I’d schedule a day trip, learn a lot about the fish and That area of the lake in particular. He uses Sportsmans as his home base, so that’s a walk out of the cabin and into his boat

Thanks for the kind words guys. Your checks will be sent out shortly.

Sorry, I'm booked solid during those time frames.

I will say this, the water temps have stalled out in the low 50s for a couple of weeks and it is hurting fishing for most. Color in Jonathan is stained but not bad. Lake is going to be around 354.8 for a few days then starting up after April 1.

I was hoping you would be available mrdux. Read all great things about you. Do you have any suggestions on a good guide for mainly crappie?

Thanks for the ideas guys. We are planning on using a guide Thursday. Be a great learning experience for us as we are pretty green crappie fisherman.
