    Exclamation Cedar Creek Lake 2008

Read in the paper --- size limit on CCL Crappie will be lifted in 2008

Seems that the Crappie are not growing as fast as the KDFWR expected (whoa ... ya think !!), and they are removing the size limit next year.

The 9" size limit is still in effect for 2007 (not that "some" ever let that stop them from taking out buckets full of undersized ones ).

The creel limit will probably still be 15/day ... that wasn't addressed in the article, so I'll just assume that it will remain the same.

Their "purpose", in lifting the size limit, according to the article ... is to remove enough of the dinks, so that the "survivors" will have a better chance of growing bigger.

No mention was made about if/when a size limit would be put back on ... guess we'll have to wait and see if this "experiment" works, the way the KDFWR thinks it will.

Since the KDFWR is already "aware" of the fact, that many "meat hogs/poachers" are already removing scores of undersized fish (and have been for years), and the population is still heavy with dinks ... I think they've resigned themselves, to allowing the "public at large", to do the same.

One can only hope that this works for the better !!

I have heard from a few (some from this site) that have caught some keepers from there. I never have, though. Of course, that could be because I've not fished it all that much ... or fished it from the bank, more than from a boat.

I've caught most of my Crappie (dinks), from there, on jigs and Roadrunners ... usually casting from the bank, or boat, around the trees and over top of the stake buckets that KDFWR put out. Once, while in the boat, my partner and I caught them trolling ... out in the middle of the main lake ... LOL!! They were busting small Shad, right along with the small Bass, and we just went out there and started casting. We could never seem to be in the right place, at the right time, when they would surface ... so we just started trolling our baits, as we went from one "jump site" to the next :D ... lo and behold, we started nailing 'em .... LOL!! Shame they were mostly in the 7-8" range ... about the same size as those we'd been catching from along the shoreline cover.

It'll be a good lake to take kids to, and let them fish !! Live bait ... like worms, crickets, minnows, etc will catch a variety of Sunfish, Crappie, Bass, and Catfish. Just finding some, of size, is the problem. There has been some "keeper" Bass, caught from there .... over the 20" size limit. But, I have also heard that some of those have been taken home, too. So much for a "trophy" Bass lake :p If they can't keep people from taking fish from there, as soon as they get past the size limit, it's going to end up being just another "so so" place to fish. And they haven't even got the Marina built, yet  They do have the "beach" in place, such as it is (a shallow section of bank that they poured sand on) ... but, thankfully it was placed in an area that wasn't all that great for fishing, anyway.
