    Default 11/25 Cumberland report-West end

I finally got around to fishing Wolf creek this Past Saturday. I went north of Alligator 2 and found a rocky cliff with some nice timber on it and tried there. I ended up finding one nice spot where a lot of fish were holding. Ended up catching 13 crappie off this same spot, smallest fish was 11". Caught all of them within about 20 minutes. I marked the spot for a later date and got off of it to do some more searching. I was spider rigging with minnows and jigs. They were taking both but preferred minnows. Fish were in 12-14 feet down in 16-17 FOW. Water temp was still about 60°.

On a side note I think I finally figured out some of my Crappie fishing woes on Lake Cumberland. I had been targeting areas where I would find white crappie on Ky lake and Green. In other words, mud flats and open water. That doesn't seem to work on Cumberland. Seems most of the crappie are blacks and they seem to hold tighter to shoreline and cover than the whites. With all the stripers I was marking in 20 FOW I wouldn't want to venture to far out there with them either. I think anyway. I've been doing this for years and I'm still learning. Probably always will be.

Cumberland is a different critter. No matter what your after , fish tend to hold deeper.
Crappie under 15in tend to stay very tight to cover.
I'm still finding them 18-25 ft deep
