Default Dad trolling cranks 1st time

We took the little crappie chaser boat out to a small city lake just for dad to feel her out a bit. He's semi retired now and the big boat is a bit intimidating for him to operate alone. The dang 4hp motor wouldn't start but in a 100 acre lake that we had never been on we may have been just as well off. Taking it easy and checking things out as we went up may have saved a few cranks on the way back down. No real creek Channel to start with we just found 15ft water and put out 2 crank rods with caution just to pass time and hung one small bass and a small crappie. As we crept closer to the east side of the lake the depth stayed in the 20 ft range and we noticed some pretty large lay downs. So up went the crankin rods, which are longer than the boat, and out came the jigging rods. Couple casts in the little blacks were running off with the jigs like crazy. 8-10 of the little dinks in a row we moved up to another lay down and dad gets out his casting pole and lands right in the middle of it. So when it's Father's Day and ur in a 11ft boat u just go up in it and get it out. After becoming consumed by the limbs of this old tree I figured we should go ahead and drop rite down in it. In 8fow I dropped my jig down by the trunk of the tree and got a quick smack from something that resulted in swing and a miss from me. And a "more dang little ones" from dad. Back down to check on the missed bite I made it down to the bottom this time and a slow pull up resulted in some slack line so a swinging I go again and hook up with something I was hoping wasn't a limb happened this time. A small run some familiar flops of wide body prompted the words "get the net" followed by dad saying what net. So up out of the water comes this 13inch beauty and now I have to get it up and over a large limb that extends 3 ft out of the water. Up and over she bounces over the limb and into the boat like a free throw that hits the front of the rim and some how bounces up and in!!? A series of holy craps and hot dangs later
That was the highlight of the day but we caught lots of small fish and kept another 10 or so for a mess and got some much needed crankin time in. Cranks only produced 3 fish this day and a hard fighting half of a bleach jug but boy we had fun and found a new place to get away from the boat crazy lakes this time of year.

Lol. Thanks for sharing the story. Any day with dad is a great day in my book. Throw in going fishing and it's sure to be funny memories.
