    Default Kentucky 6/02

The lake is heating up and so is the crankbait bite. This morning was a true multi-species treat with white crappie, black crappie, largemouth bass, sauger, channel catfish, yellow bass, drum and bluegill. There was no breeze whatsoever for the first two hours of the morning and I was overcome by a swarm of gnats of biblical proportions. You couldn't breathe without inhaling a wad of them. Once the breeze picked up they disappeared. The last fish of the day was a giant flathead that I got to the surface and then he went into a death roll and broke 12# mono like it was nothing. Largest two white crappie went 15.25 @ 2.0lbs and 16.5" at 2.4lbs,both were absolutely FULL of shad. The SportBrella on the front deck saved the day again-the side flaps make all the difference in the midday sun while trolling.

Congrats on a swell of a day. Those brellas do the trick for sure. A word of caution when the sides are down. They can block the view of other craft and they will let those buoys sneak up on you. Lol. Don't ask how I know.

Funny you mention that Jerry because the buoys do seem to sneak up on you faster with it up. I settled on raising the whole thing about a foot so that I had a clear view off the bow and brought the flaps straight down the sides. I sacrificed a bit of shade by raising the entire brella but the improved visibility was worth it. The giant red umbrella helps the visibility of the camo boat for sure.

Congrats on the catch. We had similar results last weekend. I hope the bite keeps getting better. I bought a similar umbrella to yours. It's made by Taylor Made and it's called Anchor Shade. I haven't used it yet but I think it's going to work well.

Get em Dutch. Had a similar experience with the bugs on Barkley few weeks back. Got up in a creek with some over hanging trees and really peed them off when I used the limbs to push myself back. They were of the blood sucking type and couldn't leave because we weee catching fish so out came the rain suits as big gear. Lol
    Keep on keepin on!!!

Picked it up on Amazon. 8' Sport-Brella. The spikes base fits snugly into my front deck seat base.
