Left early Friday morning headed south in search of some sunshine, warmer water and some piggies! Got on the water Friday by 11am, and fished until 7pm, ended up with just 2 keepers. Bounced a bunch of colors around, depths, presentation, and that was the problem. The wind was kicking out of the southwest, rod tips bouncing and all the other problems of being up since 3am! I did have 4 fresh, brand new and tied rigs break on fish, so the first thing back at camp was to completely rebuild rigs for the next day and re-tie before anything else was done.
Next morning started out with rain, so didn't get out until around 9:30 and fished until dark. At the end of the day,
picking up one of the best boxes of feeshes I have ever had. Ended up with 16, but a dozen were at 2lbs or bigger!
Found a suspended pattern late Saturday afternoon that proved very well for the rest of the trip.
Sunday was planned for another lake, but at 4:30am, the alarm went off and I awoke to hearing the wind...... Oh boy
Looked at the forecast, and I immediately changed plans and stuck to where I had been fishing. Wind blew until lunch and hard, but then just about died and stayed that way until dusk. Ended Sunday with 21 feeshes and this was a east wind day and it came with all the short strikes, funky activity and I say we earned each and every one of them slabs!
Monday started just as the Sunday ended, no wind and plenty of sushine. Had 16 slabs at noon, and had found some serious feeshes, and the biggest of the trip, in the shallows 4 to 6ft of water, and they were inhaling the jigs!
Wind had started to pick up, increasing, and two 48" socks were deployed, and then we were still going .7 to .9 but the fish didn't care.
Had to motor back for a 2nd drift in this new found honey hole, and the wind absolutely turned loose. Broke a carabiner for one of my 48" socks and lost a sock. Fish and the bite went south, and after 2 hours of worsening water conditions I decided to head in. A 7 mile run going into 3 to 4ft rollers, but made it without braking anything else!
An awesome trip to the Magnolia state doing something that I absolutely love, chasing big slab crappie! It would have been even better if my fishing partner had been there to share it with!
