I don't fish it often, but I have fished it since it opened (not that that's of any great consequence) ... so, just ask away. I'm sure there are a few members that fish there, and would answer most any question you have.
I haven't actually fished the new habitat put out by the KDFWR, but the last time I was there (a few years ago) there were boats around the stuff placed on the flats in front of the Zilpo Campground bank. Those flats used to have weeds growing up on them, but I don't know if they still do. When I was there back then (Oct), the creeks I went into were nearly choked to death with moss. It was all over the stickups, and made them hard to fish.
I've also never fished up in the river, past the point where the Zilpo Campground is ... I've mainly fished from the Alfrey launch ramp down to Shrout Hollow, mostly along the deeper rock bank between Cassidy Ford Hollow & Shrout Hollow, and up into those creeks.
I also used to Bass fish at night, along the bank between the Scott Creek Marina ramp & the dam. Probably not a bad bank to fish for Crappie, either, since it has a lot of downed trees & chunk rock.
Go to Google and type in "Cave Run Lake" .... then click on the map that shows up on the right hand corner of the page. Zoom down and click on the "satellite view" picture, then zoom down on the banks around the lake & you'll see a "Winter water level" view. That'll give you a good idea of what's on those banks & what the banks are made up of ... fallen timber, big rocks, sand, or pea gravel. And then you can assume that most of those banks will be ~6ft deep at the point where it shows where the water meets the bank in that satellite view. Cave Run is lowered ~6ft from Summer Pool of 730 to Winter Pool of 724.
And just in case you didn't already know -
You can keep track of water levels here : Louisville District Daily Lake Report
And here's the KDFWR map of the habitats they placed & their GPS coordinates : https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...604999997&z=13
Luck2ya ... and hope you have some reports & pics to show us, after you get to fish the lake.
