    Default Ramp at Rockcastle River/Cumberland

I was planning a few crappie trips this coming year and one I'm thinking of is going to Cumberland this spring. I noticed there's a boat ramp on KY-3497 where Rockcastle River meets Cumberland, near the Rockcastle Campground. Anyone use this ramp? Is it pretty easy to access and put in/take out?

mbk, I have used this ramp plenty of times. This used to be London Dock. There is no longer a dock there since the drawdown of Cumberland. The ramp is in good shape and is concrete. However, there is no courtesy dock to tie up to when launching/loading.

Thanks guys. That's what I needed to know. Sounds like I'll be trying out the upper part of the lake for some early spring slabs. I'm thinking end of March maybe.

Water tends to be muddy in the spring, plan accordingly

What would you recommend as a way to figure out the water conditions prior to a trip (aside from asking on the forums)?

I can check water level at Rockcastle River at Billows: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=03406500 I know that's way up river.

Rainfall and how hard they're generating will give an idea
It's nearly always stained- muddy all spring
Post a couple days before your wanting to try it.
I know some commercial fishermen that work that area
I should be able to get present condition and temp

All I can tell you about that part of Cumberland Lake, is that my Mom & Stepdad used to have a place at Jasper Bend. They launched at the ramp there and trolled upriver along that bank with "Sparkletails" (jointed crankbait of old) and caught many nice Crappie, back in the day.

Looking at Google Maps, the area around the Rockcastle ramp (and right out in front of the ramp) is full of submerged trees ... now that the lake is back to normal water levels.
