My job has been keeping me away from my passion of fishing lately which really stinks, but also a blessing with the extra money. So my family and I got away last week to take a little time fishing with the kids and just bug around the twin lakes. North winds and cold temps with rain seemed to dominate our trip. It's so frustrating when all I hoped for was south winds and warmer temps. But we made due with what we had.
Wed was hectic with the trip down and checking in at Whispering Oaks and getting settled in our cabin. Bob and Marilyn were great and I highly recommend staying at their resort. They are very friendly and help with anything you need. The day was spent searching for beds and keeping up with kiddos. We finally got my son his catfish he has been asking for. He netted it like he had been doin it for.years, which was really special.
Thurs was our best day weather wise so we crossed the lake and spent some time on the LBL side. Found a few small beds and one better one. The kids loved the boat ride.
Fri was dominated by rain and lightning so we went to visit Jett-A-Marina and check out the new Ranger Boats. We hit a few consignment shops and finished the evening with dinner at Patti's Settlement. We got back to the cabin at about 6 so I decided to sneak out and spend some time fishing by myself. I found one real good bed and fished till dusk and decided to save some for in the morn.
Sat morn I went back to the same bed with some good luck. Fished for an hour before we had to pack up and came out with 24 good eater gills .
I fished an 1/8 oz drop shot with a small black Bobby Garland minnow tipped with a wax worm. The young man at Ken's TBC was kind enough to pour me some weights I wanted. I casted past the beds and drug my drop shot rig thru back to the boat. It felt just like a crappie thump when the gills hit. It was awesome fishing with a setup that was kinda unique and effective.
We were thankful to get down there and back home safely and spend some time fishing with the kids. Sure was nice to get back home to our house and back to normal tho.
The secret to fishing? Fish where the fish are.
