    Default Barkley

Tried Barkley yesterday afternoon. Lot of color in the water but fishable. 5-10 mile an hour wind they predicted turned into more like 20-25. Very difficult to fish, caught some small (and I mean small) ones and a couple of keepers. Sounds like the lake may go way up in the next couple of weeks.

Took a buddy out on Barkley for a while this morning, wind was pretty tough today too. Protected areas either had too much current or were too deep. We caught 8 keepers in open water areas in 25fow but my trolling motor battery gave up at dinner. Had been catching some nice blacks on top of shallower ledges and humps but they were mia today.

Meant to say protected areas were too shallow, haven't caught a keeper in less than 19fow this week.

I've been struggling on Barkley also, after reading Pab1981's report guess I'm looking in the wrong places, fishing a lot shallower. Maybe with the warmer temps the fish will move up some.

Not sure sure where the blacks went but all the fish should be fixing to move up and back the way the weather forecast looks.

I fished Barkley on Sunday but didn't find any crappie. I did catch a few bass but was really hoping to find some crappie but that was a big swing and a miss. I was in a kayak so I was limited to how far I was able to search for them.

I was going to go out again Monday but the winds were too strong to bother with in a kayak.

I put in at Double Creek on Sunday and was mainly scouting for shellcracker areas. I did have some minnows and fished structure in Nickel Bay using both, cork and minnows along with casting jigs. We didn't very good, caught a couple short crappie.

I did find an obscure little bay that doesn't even have a name on the maps that is probably the most interesting looking bay I've found for crackers. You talk about a gravel bar that dang near closes it off to navigation at this point. Saw two bald eagles in that little nook too, they were protecting their nest it appeared.

One other note, I saw a young boy carrying a five gallon bucket with what appeared to be 10 big crappie, about 13-14inchers. He caught them off of the Buzzard Rock docks...that's the best I can tell for now.

You'll miss the spawn of both, crappie and crackers at this rate. I'm concerned with how warm it is, very early spring for sure.
