Pappy is right about look for colored water...it would take a monsoon to dirty the water up on that end of the lake....not been there in a week or so but probably be able to see way down in the water.

Thanks again for the input. I'm sure we won't hurt your fish populations any and even if we luck into a few we probably won't keep them all anyway.
It's going to be interesting to fish new water especially since it's so different than our local lake, the lake I normally fish is very similar to your Taylorsville Lake.
The weatherman is calling for some rain and that's probably going to be a good thing not having bright sun all week with that clear water.
We're really not too species specific so if we stumble on to some bass or gills or whatever I'm sure we'll have a good time.
We're leaving Monday morning and I'll be sure to post a report when I get home.
Pitch pink and chartruce jigs to any laydown cover you see and you will catch a lot of bass and crappie feeding in the backs of creeks and coves. Did that on Wednesday evening and caught a bunch of Kentucky's and small mouth and some nice crappie.

Well with 4 days of fishing & exploring a new lake we had a pretty good time. Even thought we had some unsettled weather and had to limit some of our fishing because of storms moving through we managed some nice fish. Getting to a new lake we had to spend more than the usual amount of time just looking around trying to get our bearings and just getting a feel for the place. We seemed to manage about a dozen or so nice crappies per day plus some bonus fish of gills bass & catfish. The last day was the best with 17 crappie and of those only 3 were under 12". My friend hooked something we never saw and we guessed it was either a catfish or a striper.
We were impressed by the size of the fish and this 15"+ white tipped the scales at 1.96#

It seems the average size of the fish was around 13"-14" with very few really small fish

Mix in some nice gill which seemed to average 8"-9"

and overall you have a pretty good time.
I think all the cover we fished seemed to mostly be Sycamore trees and they were surprisingly easy to fish. We used weedless jigs with brush guards made by Grousefly (on this site) and considering all the cover we only lost a few jigs. Most of the jigs lost were do to the line wrapping around stuff more than snagging it. Cover like this was everywhere.

To those who replied to this thread I want to thank you again for your help. We had a good time and caught some nice fish. We only kept 4 fish for a nice meal, everything else went back.
