I had been concerned about the lack of small crappie on KY lake since spring. Of course, I pull a lot of big crankbaits that are probably pretty intimidating to a little guy. We tried some longlining Sat and I tried it today. I'll have to say the future looks much brighter than I had expected.
The dinkers are showing up in force and many of them are in great shape. The one below was 9 inches but looked like it has swallowed a golf ball.

Sadly, my day today was really tough. East wind and lake lice. The crappie were not in the same area as last week and most of those that were biting were short. The water temp had dropped from 89.6 to 84.6 and the thermocline has dropped 3-4 feet. I know we rarely see a thermocline on KY Lake but with the lack of current, some places are experiencing it. I spent 1/2 my day longlining and the other 1/2 pulling cranks with very little to show for it. Still no current. One positive was I never had another fisherman within 1/4 mile of me today.
