    Default Ky Lake 5-23 & 5-24

I broke out the crankbaits for the 1st time this year. The lake was rough but not too bad on Sat. It looked like the ocean on Sunday. Quackrstackr and I braved the 3-4 foot rollers today to try our luck. We managed a few (13 Sat and 12 Sunday) keeper crappie (big fish 2#6oz--17 1/4 inches long), 5 keeper bass for the grill Sat and 2 Sunday (Big fish 5#12 oz Sat and 1 over 5 Sunday), more catfish than we could shake a crankbait at, a bunch of small sauger, a couple of Chaunc's gaspergoos, and assorted other fish. The size of the crappie was impressive. We had 7 over 1 1/2 pounds for both days.

We did get a surprise when we loaded the boat on the trailer today. Seems I had leaned my Humminbird 788DI HD forward on the RAM mount instead of toward the back of the boat. Some time while hitting SEVERAL waves that busted completely over the nose, the 788 decided to take flight and now resides on the bottom of KY Lake. If somebody finds it, they can have over 2000 of my waypoints. That ended up being the only downer from 2 great days of fishing with a great friend.

This is a 150 qt cooler with all the fish from Sat.

Me with 4 keepers from Sat.

    Big crappie and bass.

Tim with a good one Sunday.

    4 good ones from Sunday.

Saved the best for last. Here's Chaunc's gaspergoo with the Gaspergoo King of KY lake.

That looks awesome. Hate to hear about to overboard. Glad the crank bite is working. Hopefully my truck will be fixed soon and I'll head out. Congrats on a fine mess of fish.

You guys are getting busy on those cranks. Still on late spawn up here but will be breaking out my Mr Dux custom paints real soon. Fantastic cooler. Hope you didn't,t put that big ole goo in the bottom to make the cooler look full.😁

The bottom was full of catfish that I got tired of cleaning. The only 2 cranks we lost all weekend were on fish (probably cats) that broke us off.

I got a text from a friend of mine who seriously damaged his pontoon boat today in waves near where we fished.

Big crappie today was 16 inches that weighed 2 pounds even. Didn't think of weighing the bass till after the knife got done with it.

You da man Dux!!! Nice bunch of fish. We went to Paris Landing to troll cranks because we had never trolled that far south. We did catch lots of fish a mixture like ya'll but only 6 keeper crappies. Best fish of the day was about a 5 lb smallmouth. One reason we went to Paris was a fact finding mission for the future and we found out a few facts for sure. (1) Don't go to paris landing to fish on Memorial Day weekend. A ship went out of a bay about 300 yards from us and about 10 minutes later we took 3 waves over the front of the boat that almost swamped us. We had water ankle deep in the bottom of the boat. (2) We got there about 7 AM and I've never seen as much parking at a boat ramp. They were almost full already. I think that's what they are talking about with the old saying "You Build It They Will Come" (3) It's hard to pull 2 hooks on a crankbait buried in your hand riding 3 and 4 foot waves. This fact I won't forget!!!
    Set da hook
