    Default Carr Creek

Went by there the other day delivering a truck down in VA. and thought it looked pretty interesting. Probably never fish there as it's so far from Louisville. Was wondering if it's as good for fishing as it looks. Any comments on it?

Found this about Carr Creek on the 2014 Fishing Forecasts & Tips page :

*Larger black crappie from 9-12 inches and white crappie from 10-16 inches. Deadfalltrees and submerged brush piles will congregate large numbers of fish during most ofthe year. Research project with white crappie is ongoing.*

And found this in a Oct 2013 newspaper article (Herald-Dispatch) online :

"Paintsville Lake in Johnson and Morgan counties have received 35,000 black crappie. Carr Creek Lake in Knott County received 14,000 white crappie while Taylorsville Lake in Spencer, Anderson and Nelson counties received 61,000 white crappie. The Blood River embayment on Kentucky Lake gets about 150,000 white crappie Thursday."The stockings are part of a research study to evaluate whether crappie stockings in bad reproductive years will improve crappie populations down the road," said Gerry Buynak, assistant director of fisheries for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife."

Also found this off the KDFWR site: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...8.kNFGelbw40mI

When I flipped that map over to Satellite image and looked at it, it reminds me of a mini Taylorsville Lake ... minus a couple of large creeks, but with a bridge across the main stretch.

Also realized that it's right close to Vicco, Ky .... home of "Grousefly" (Paul Mullins / P&S Custom Tackle) ... my main man for custom jigs !!

Thanks Pappy, All I know about it is it sure looks like a nice place to find some good fish. The route I took to get to where I was going was along KY 15 as the map shows runs along the side of the lake. To the east, I think, of the bridge there's a decent looking marina, there's a camp ground and beach there also.

I live close by..... Not known much for crappie.... It is loaded with dinks and the occasional good fish. Keeper size is 9" and it is very often a boat catches 10 keepers. It does have some nice crappie, just few and far between. It is the best walleye lake in the area. Really good size and quite a few of them are caught down close to the dam. It is only about 800 acres. Pm me if you ever decide to fish it.
