It is my understanding they are going to pull it down to 664 and do some work on or at the dam area and then bring it back up to 668.....but I also heard that they was going to have it all done by nov. 15th but you hear a little of everything....

Winter pool is 668 currently per the COE lake levels it is 666.2 and still pulling the heck out of it? Does anyone know why it is being pulled lower than winter pool?

Last year they dropped Barren to 525. Usually 528 was winter pool. They dropped it to work on the dam.
I will be glad when everything settles down. I've been to Dale Hollow and that can be a very humbling experience.
Per the COE going to 664 for maintenance on the dam tower, will be bought back to 668 upon work completion. If you go to GR facebook page it ha the COE Press release regardng ths work. Just be safe and aware that you have 4 foot less of water.

I'm not familiar with the lake at all, but will be coming down this weekend. It looks like they will have it back down a few feet. Am I going to run into any trouble with shallow ramps?
Per th COE response n their facebook page from the url address from a prior post. "Ramps at Butler Creek/ Mt Carmel, Snake Creek, Arnold's Landing, ands Emerald Isle Marina will most likely be unusable during this drawdown. Our other ramps should be usable but there still may be some shallow areas to watchout for." Hope this helps.
Last week only the middle lane of the Holmes Bend ramp was usable. There has been a ton of silting that has occurred on both sides of the ramp that I hope they take advantage of the lower winter pool to clear out with some equipment.
I also encourage everyone that uses the lake during the winter time to please take an extra couple minutes before/after you launch and pick up any rusty metal that you find in the ramp grooves that have been exposed. This helps prevent expensive/annoying flat tires on boat trailers and tow vehicles later in the year. We pick up at least a coffee can's worth of junk every year and see mostly larger screws and lag bolts from boat trailer hardware.
good idea
Thanks for the input, fellas. Silting, and holes from power loading, can cause a bit of surprise sometimes.
I put in at Holmes Bend today with no problems. They have cleared off the silt to some degree. At least enough room for 3-4 boats to launch/load at a time. Water was muddy from the far side of Buffalo Gap all the way up to river.
