Default KY Lake crappie and redears safer for now

I just came from the funeral home visiting the family of a friend of mine. He and I have known each other for close to 10 years but never shared a boat. He just lost his 2+ year fight with cancer. He used to kid me about my style of fishing and never would longline or pull cranks. He was a 2-poler and spider rig guy. If fish were anywhere on KY lake and shallow, he would catch them. He had a small circle of secretive fishing buddies who didn't give up info on their spots He was as good and as dedicated a bluegill and redear fisherman as I ever knew. He could catch redears when all the rest of us had put up our gear. The ducks and geese also knew if he was around.

He leaves a wife, daughter and 2 beautiful young granddaughters. He was a dedicated church member who kidded me when I missed church. He and his wife sat right behind my wife and I and he would always ask me the next service he saw me if the fish were biting or the ducks/geese flying. He will be missed.

If heaven is the way I want it to be, he's up there catching the really big ones now, enjoying every perfect day, and advising us to keep the faith! What a testimony he left.

Hey Doug, I know it hurts to lose a friend and try to imagine how the families and friends go on after losing some one they love. It makes me think of this.

    Fisherman's Prayer

I pray that I may live to fish
    Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
    I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
    And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
    Big enough to keep.

Friends are rare, and their loss hurts deeply. God bless you and God bless his family.
