Anyone interested, the striper jumps have started on Cumberland. They are from Rowena down to the dam on both sides of the lake

we caught 6 on Saturday and only 2 on Sunday but that was because every time they would come up some dumb kids would drive their boat right in the middle of the jumps and run them down
nice report thanks
Any size? Caught some really nice fish there. Had one 38 a few years ago!

They must have learned that game on KY Lake. We used to chase the jumps for whites religiously. We would shut down the big motor well before we got to the jump and EASE into it, most of the time not spooking the fish on top. There were some guides who would come blasting up into the jumps we were fishing and literally have a rod in their hands before the boat came to a stop, right in the middle of the jump, and leave their big motor running. I think I actually created some cuss works for those idiots but it didn't seem to stop their games. I think having one ounce spoons and spinners buzzed past their ears got the message to them eventually.

The ones we caught were about 12 to 14 lbs. It will be 4 or 5 years before the big ones make a come back.
I agree Mr. Dux, a 5 inch zarra spook or a 7 inch redfin with 1/0 trebles screaming by your head will deffanaty get your attention.
You'd think a "guide" would have more sense (or courtesy) than to shut down in the middle of the jumps... most especially if there was other boats working the school.
If the "guide" had customers ... a "teaching moment" was lost by those actions, and ego & greed took over. Not to mention that what he taught the customer was total unsportsmanlike conduct, and a disregard for fellow anglers & the resource.

CP, I agree with your assessment. You would think they would be there to teach not only fishing techniques but also ethics. I've had several confrontations with guides on KY lake over the years, most from them literally running up right up within casting distance of my boat while I was fishing a spot. I have been cussed more than once by them when I had the audacity to call them on it. I had a rod almost yanked out of my hands when a guide ran into one of the jumps that my wife and I had been fishing for several minutes and a kid (14 or so) cast over our lines for the 3rd or 4th time. I was reeling the tangled mess up toward my boat when the kid decided to give it a big yank. He, his father and the guide all had no idea how close they all came to a physical confrontation. Thank goodness my wife has much better people skills than me.
One morning I was on a point on the LBL side of KY , casting for smallmouth, when a guide ran literally between me and the bank on the point, a distance of no more than 20 yards. Now I'm not a little guy but just because I have a camo boat doesn't mean I'm hard to see. I took serious offense when one of the guide's clients questioned his move, LOUDY! That really set the guide off and he was still cussing me when he got out of hearing distance. The client actually raised his arms up toward me in a manner that made me believe he was questioning and was sorry for what had just happened.
I have several friends who are guides. I make a big portion of my yearly income guiding waterfowl hunters in MO. For me, or another guide, to show disrespect to other fishermen or hunters we encounter on the lake or in the field, just gets all guides painted with the same broad brush. That doesn't make it fair and I would hope that it would be a teaching moment for not only the guide but also his clients. Some folks just aren't capable of getting that message.

Most of the guides on Cumberland are upstanding people but just a few are me first and to h#?? with the rest of you. They are the ones that don't ususally get repeat customers. Most of the guides, if they know you will call and tell you where the jumps are because they know there are enough fish for every one.
