    Default Boat Insurance

I curremtly have Ky Farm Bureau coverage. Yesterday I priced Progressive, same coverage and deductibles finding it would save $100+ a year. Has anybody had dealings with Progressive ie claims and how they were handled and customer service. I would be open to hear about other carriers also like Boat USA.

I have family in the auto repair business. They speak highly of Progressive as does my son. He hit a deer and did major damage to his Ford Escape. A year+ later he was having an electrical issue, took it back to the shop, and Progressive took care of it since it had been damaged in the deer strike but not noticed at the time it was fixed.

A few years ago I got mad at Farm Bureau over a business claim and decided to take every bit of my insurance somewhere else. After pricing rates at several different companies, I went slinking back to Farm Bureau. Some of the places I called about boat insurance would not even give me quotes when I told them I had been with KY Farm Bureau. They just said there was zero chance that they would even be close.

Well was taking to another big carrier regarding the home owners coverage especially the replacement cost coverage was way out of line. The other carrier could not write a policy for 3 years due to a water damage claim this Jan due to a pinhole leak in the dishwasher valve which entailed FB replacing my kitchen and utility area flooring. Did not mention this, she found it when she ran some numbers. Seems the companies are all linked via insurance databases. I talked to the FB agent and he agreed the new replacement cost was to high, he would contact under writing to see how they cameup with the new numbers. What I have learned the past 2 days is compare apples to apples then ask specific questions, and shop around.

Progressive will pay for your lower unit if its damaged, no matter what, nobody else does that.

Guys do yourself a favor and call Bob Luellen at Word Wide Marine insurance.

Please don't hate because he was a tournament bass angler. He saved me about 1/2 on boat insurance. The underwriter is Progressive, but Bob writes the policy for actual replacement value for the boat and any contents you list including tackle. If you say you want $12,000 on the boat and $4,000 for electronics, rods, reels and tackle he will write the policy. All he ask is that you take detailed photos of everything and email them to him. Be prepared to talk to him for about 30 minutes as he will teach you about boat insurance. I went to a local progressive agent and they were $100 higher with less coverage. I went back with my policy from Bob and the local agent basically said "wow I did not know you could set a policy up like that". She asked to copy my policy information so she could review it and use it as a reference. I respectfully declined out of respect to Bob for the effort he put into writing the policy.
