    Default Cumberland Night Fishing

I've been having good success night-fishing for crappie on Lake Cumberland. On 5 trips in the last few weeks, I've caught 19, 28, 41, 52, and 26 respectively. On three of the trips I had a friend along. We only kept a nice mess to eat on each trip, releasing the others to be caught another day (something I really believe in and try to practice). I'm catching the fish in the Fishing Creek area using both minnows and jigs. Fish have been caught 12 to 22 ft deep in 40 to 55 feet of water over brush with a green Hydra-glow light. 20 feet, however, seems to be the magic depth. I love night fishing for crappie this time of year. Boat traffic is "much" less and you don't have to worry about the hot sun and warm temps. On two occasions we had a nice stripers hit our jigs. Let me tell you, a big striper on a crappie rod is a "heck" of a battle, even if only for a few moments, before it breaks the line!

Glad your having fun, sounds a lot like the crappie at dale hollow, same depths and seemed like 20 was the magic depth while sitting in 40 to 45' of water. We went twice last week caught 28 keepers and 17 keepers,i had a blast, first time I have fished under the lights since I was probably 14 and im 43 now.But I plan on a lot more of it.

Before they droped the lake I would fish the lights off the houseboats and the dusk to dawn lights on the ends of the piers. Not been back since the water is back up, hope its still as good.

My in-laws had a house at Cumberland some years ago and I used to night fish for crappie a lot. I targeted the points where Wolfe Creek flows into the main lake ... the right point in particular. As I recall, the water depths were similar to what you describe. It was loads of fun and lots of fish too!
