We are doing well in my area barren and nolin. Seems at nolin green lights are dominant. However at Barren I can't tell a difference between white or green

Can you guys give some help on how to fish with a light? What kind of water depth? Around brush piles? Just generally, where do you fish with a light? How long do you stay in one area before moving? How deep do you put the light? I'd kind of like to try it but my experience was 30 years ago hanging a coleman lantern off a pontoon boat. The bugs were pretty bad!!!

    Thanks for any help.

Water Depth ... depends on how deep the thermocline is
Where to fish ... same cover types as usual (brush piles/stump beds/drop offs/points/creek mouths)
Length of stay ... once bait has been lured to your lights, no more than an hour should go by without catching fish before you move to another area
Depth of light source ... I see no reason to put submersible lights more than a foot or two deep, since the lights are not directly drawing the Crappie to you, but are in fact drawing plankton -- which draws Shad -- which draws fish. Most lights that are on docks & boats, and may burn all night/every night (and the fish get used to that light drawing food to it) are above the surface.

Almost any color light will draw bugs. Most all of those bugs are more nuisance than threat. Supposedly a Thermocell device will keep the harmful bugs away (like mosquitoes)

Thanks very much for the info and glad you're doing ok health-wise! Can you tell me how to find out where the thermocline is? Great tip on the Thermocell- I've got one of those and have only used it when turkey hunting. I'll be at Nolin tomorrow and will try the light tomorrow night.

Crank the sensitivity up on your depth finder until you see a lot of clutter towards the lower half of the water column. This area that is cluttered looking is low in oxygen. Just fish above it. If no depth finder fish deep with a minnow and if it dies you are down in the thermocline. Start raising your minnow higher.

in nolin once you find your spot fish around 10-12 ft. Sometimes as the night progresses you may move up to 2 ft just depends on the school that you are fishing. Good place to start would be the secondary river channel in furnace hollar. Find the point that will jump from about 60-70 ft down to around 20-25 quick. Good luck
