Been checking in to see a little input on Cedar Creek since that last cold front...haven't seen much. Then it occurred to me maybe I should post.
I went down twice since then, put in down off Cowan road. Tried deep first then moved over to the far side in about 14 FOW & tied to a cedar clump. Got 3 surprisingly good fish @ 4 FOW from that one then eased back toward the back of the creek hitting similar looking cedar groups along the way. Couple more good fish. Ventured all the way in just to be sure they weren't piled up in there doing their thing but no more luck. Spoke to others on the way in & each sounded frustrated claiming they had found nothing. Fisherman wouldn't lie. <---sarcasm
Second trip back was after a few days of warmer weather post-Easter in almost perfect conditions. What appeared to be a sure thing this time after seeing a little red in the eggs from the earlier fish, I was just shy of being skunked. Nobody, again, was catching anything. Last 2 guys I talked to said these fish don't know whether to be in 2 foot of water or 20 because of this strange weather spring. I was certain they would be back on the flats and expected to load up but...
Buddy with me did snatch about half a dozen of those recently stocked rainbows that we put back...one nice one. If there's a bass in there that could eat that one bigger trout, I've wasted a lot of $$ tripping down to The Sunshine State early in the year chasing bigmouths.
Last note...last time I was on Cedar several years ago, the crappie were dinks. Stunted, little guys. Word was after the removing of the size limit, things were going to get better. I can say one thing...they have grown up for sure. I didn't catch any small fish by our standards.

KiK ... that reminds me of several years ago, when I was fishing with a site member. We fished Herrington that morning, in a on/off slight drizzle & air temps in the high 30's to mid 40's. We didn't do very well & Fred said we ought to go give Cedar Creek a try, about midday. By the time we got to Cedar Creek, the Sun was out and things were heating up quick. We found the Crappie in less than 4fow, back in the trees & submerged wood ... in water so clear you could see the fish from 20ft away. All we had to do to catch them was stick a jig close to them, and they'd grab it. It was so easy it was comical, but none were big enough to keep, because that was when the 9" size limit was in effect. We got so tickled at how easy it was to catch them, that we tried to find the ugliest, funkiest looking color of jig body plastics that we had in our tackle boxes ... just to see if there was a color they wouldn't hit. We tried everything from ugly to gaudy to some that were so old & been in the tackle boxes so long they looked like they'd been lying on the road for weeks ... but, didn't matter to the fish !!
If those Cedar Creek fish have grown as well as the Taylorsville fish ... then I might have to start venturing back down there, too. Thanks for the report.
