Default Lowrance touch 7 or HDS-8 for the bow? and why?

Just like the title says! can't decide which one I want! Could even go with one of the bird 999's but I like the DI of the Lowrance better! anyone have screen shots of either of the lowrance?

www.kicknbass.net/sonar.php All sorts of screen shots. Maybe not the 7 but the 8 for sure.

I went with the 8. I want more vertical screen for more on screen history while side scanning. The 7 is a wide screen format so the size comparison is really apples and oranges when you look at it.

Remember the HDS 8 needs the additional LSS module and the additional LSS 2 xducer for SI/DI...

The Touch only needs the additional LSS 2 xducer because Structure Scan is built in...

As much as I like my Touch units I'd go with the 8 over a Touch 7, size matters.

I may be wrong about this, but I think there is a skimmer type DI/SI transducer for the touch models. If that's true, it would be better for trolling motor mounting than the LSS-2 which is a foot long. I don't think that same transducer works on the HDS-8 Gen 2. Again I may be wrong, but it might be worth looking into.

You are correct, the transducer is from a Elite 7 HDI. That transducer will plug and play on the touch series. If I were going to use an 8, I'd buy a used LSS-1.

The Elite 7 HDI xducer will not have SI when used on a Touch unit...(there are no "side pointing" piezoes in the HDI xducer)...

    Just 2d/DI....

Like Justin said...the best scenario is find a LSS 1...and use it with the Touch alone...or along with the HDS and the module...
